During the supply chain, the containers pass through different stages, either with or without merchandise, as we know it to this logistics cycle of the container.
Within this cycle, once the container is emptied and the customer returns it to the owner, it’s taken to the depot for maintenance, step that is mandatory in order to return to the cycle of export. In that cycle passes through different stages such as the inspections, the budget request for authorization to be repaired, authorization, repair and subsequent use in export. All this takes place in an indeterminate time, with costs associated with each of these cycles and a fixed cost for each day that passes in the reservoir.
The quality of the management of the reservoir represents, in most cases, is a strategic point in the operation, productivity and systematization of this chain creating added value that in most cases is detrimental to shipowners. Considering that is a non productive cycle, the cost savings is the most important parameter to consider.
The container storage in the reservoir has a daily cost for each unit, and cost increases when a significant percentage of that unit spends 30 days at the depot. Due to this reason the stock policy was set to FIFO (First In-First Out), which in most cases due to the poor planning of the area, supported by the mismanagement of the tank is not followed up, generating an excessive expense that becomes a black hole in the finances of the shipowners.
In this article is intended, through a mathematical study and a management point of view to make an analytical description of the cycle of the container in the reservoir, with the aim of improving its operation, while minimizing the costs incurred during this stage of this non-productive transport unit.

"During the career of nautical sciences, the University forms the future professionals who will sail the seven seas transporting goods in all its various forms. This remains a very important profession, however the importance of these activities it is not usually well known by the rest of the society not directly involved with the maritime world.
The professions have being evolving, and the nautical job is not an exception. Our labor market, thanks to economic reasons and the natural history of the profession has increased the barriers in the traditional job fields, specially related to the nationality of the marine professionals.
Thanks to this, the marine professionals had opened new gates to develop new activities in other different positions which traditionally were busy by others carriers, for example, shipping companies.
However, training in this sense is lacking, nautical students in most of the cases are not trained and specialized in this regard. The idea of this research paper is to quantify and identify the needs on the training, thru an analytical and statistical investigation and propose a training plan according to current needs in this area.
The methodology to be used is to conduct a survey in several universities or faculties of nautical studies and at different levels of the training. Upon receipt of the data can be quantified, first for really know the degree of importance of this subject for nautical students, major weaknesses, and points that they think consider being included in this education. On the other hand there will be a survey of experts in the shipping industry in order to know the opinion, based on the students that they are receiving for internship during the year, setting out what they see as necessary to be learned. After the key stakeholder’s opinion is defined, the last step will be the developments of a comparative table, in order to create a curriculum model that will aim to cover these gaps identified in the study

In a marine terminal, logistics of container movements and arrangement can certainly affect the benefit that terminals, carriers and ship-owners can get. They may even lead to costs difficult to bear by the shipping companies. Container logistics management understood from the time that a container is discharged at a port, can be defined as a set of financial transactions, and based on the logistic principle that every movement generates a cost. Based on this principle, it arises the question if the cost of passage and stay of a container at a terminal can be reduced through an efficient allocation of space arises.
Given the land’s extension of a terminal, the costs of port land, the prices that placements and movements of containers involve, as well as their horizontal and vertical positioning, this work seeks to make an analytical study to check whether the assumption of an efficient allocation is fulfilled. We are based on a specific case-study. From a given example, we consider the limit of practical resistance and safety, the maximum height of stacks, the containers before their new settings, the terminal size, the movement cost, the cost of getting the container below if other above (swapping of containers), and the ratio ‘cost of movements and machinery / cost of space (ground)’. We try to find a reasonable optimum comparing several possible configurations.

Historically, maritime transportation has been the most common method to transport significant volumes of goods and creating commercial relationships between markets.
However, as a consequence of the evolution of the international commerce, other models have increased their relevance due to certain factors: specialization of the customer services (door to door), technological evolution, and geopolitical changes which extends the logistics chains beyond the port. Land transportation (by truck), the use of the rail transportation to move significant volumes of goods, air transportation for specialized cargo and shipping which require fast delivery, and the appearance of Intermodal transport, as the Motorways of the sea, in the case of Europe, show the need to analyzed and understand in details the current model on maritime transportation in order to identify and maximize their competitive advantages thru the identification of the value drivers.
In the value management, the most used and known methodology is the Porter Value Chain, for which all the system’s approach methodologies are applicable. Using this scope, a theoretical analysis will be performed over the activities and maritime process, identifying stakeholders, value drivers and competitive strategies.

This work seeks to make a taxonomic analysis, exploratory in nature, of the literature and the existing models on value creation. A descriptive metric that allows to catalog and evaluate the various theoretical sources for the construction of future methodologies for value management is performed. The study also makes a quantitative analysis of the databases indexing those journals that publish works on the variables studied in value management and their possible interrelationships from a systemic approach.

The methodology of this work, has consisted of comparative analysis based on the results obtained from different surveys. The first survey has been conducted in several schools of nautical and maritime studies, considering the different levels existent at training programs, perception from students in relation to major weaknesses and missing elements. The second survey focused on experts in shipping & maritime logistics considering their experience from the trainee students with the objective to identify the core skills that will be required from a professional point of view. The results of both surveys have been combined, performing a comparative analysis in order to define a curriculum model that should cover the academic and business abilities gaps identified during the study.
