Arts in HealthCare

The UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital doesn’t look or sound like a traditional hospital thanks to the UK Arts in HealthCare program. As part of our visual arts programming, multiple forms of art are showcased throughout our hospitals and clinics. Over 4000 works of art, featuring local, national, regional and international artists, can be found in our lobbies, waiting areas, hallways, outdoor spaces, patient and exam rooms. Our eight rotating galleries feature as many as eleven unique visual art exhibits per year.

Live performances occur across the UK HealthCare enterprise as part of our performing arts programming. Professional and volunteer musicians and performers of all ages are featured weekly in our lobbies and other public spaces with occasional special performances in our 305 seat, state of the art auditorium. Performers showcase a variety of music from across all genres including occasional opera, ballet and theater performances.

"Our mission is to create an environment of care and to focus on the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of our patients, family, caregivers and staff. The program recognizes the arts and the artists as powerful and positive forces in the healing process."

To achieve our mission, we strive to create and maintain a healing environment and culture of care, in accordance with UK HealthCare's mission and vision, by directly and indirectly engaging our patients, family, caregivers, staff, faculty, students and community through our visual arts, performing arts and other programming.

What's New

A TRIO OF NEW EXHIBITS NOW ON DISPLAY NOW!

Christine Kuhn: Matrons, Maids & Maidens - North Gallery, Kentucky Clinic, 3rd floor

Works created by the artist on a journey to better understand the changing roles of women from the time of her mother's formative years in the 1940s and 50s to those of her own in the 70s and 80s. This visual exploration features life size portraits of several famous actors known for their iconic television personalities through which they often mirrored the ever-evolving roles of women from one generation to another. The portraits are combined with vibrant and expressive combinations of plants, herbs and flowers used in traditional medicine and symbolizing the knowledge of, and association with Mother Nature.

Tag Christof: Roadtrip - UK Hospital Auxiliary Gallery, Chandler Hospital, Pavilion A, ground floor

Grab the steering wheel or relax in the backseat as you take in the changing scenery along Tag Christof's Roadtrip. There will be traffic, detours and unplanned stops along the way. You will see layers of paint and change, neighborhoods, cars and diners. It's not something to be measured in miles, but the sum total of endless landscapes and images experienced through the most American means of travel.

Jan Dickey: Constellations - Jacqueline R. Hamilton Gallery, Chandler Hospital, Pavilion A, 1st floor

The star is a source of life. Symbolically, it can be playful, decorative, magical or political. Virtue, truth, protection and justice may be conveyed through its presence. In combining abstract compositions with the star's ambiguity, Jan Dickey surrenders the meaning of his paintings to the observer. Spontaneous forms and clues offer wide potential, creating open-ended imagery in the interest of provoking diverse interpretations.
