Madeleine Gagné
Madeleine “Mac” Gagné is a current PhD student at North Carolina State University Engineering’s Operations Research program studying emergency operations amidst weather-based disasters. Her graduate methodologies of interest are logistics engineering, linear programming, information networks and narrative theory. Gagné works part time at Northrop Grumman while obtaining her degree. Mac received her Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematically Applied Strategy with High Distinction in 2021 from Duke University, where she created her own curriculum to study operations research, game theory, decision science and applied mathematics under the direction of Dr. Hubert Bray. During her undergraduate years, Mac worked for NOAA NWS, CSIS, and Northrop Grumman and was named a Brooke Owens Scholar in 2021. She won an AMS first-place award for her NOAA NWS summer research in 2020, and looks forward to attending and presenting at the AMS annual meetings for years to come.
Following completion of her PhD in either 2025 or 2026, Gagné hopes to apply the mathematical programming, logic, and strategy ascertained from Operations Research to increase the number of lives saved amidst high-risk weather events. While Mac loves spending time in the lab, she hopes to push the limits of applied mathematics by being a boots-on-the-ground analyst.
Mac is also a budding author, and is very invested in the diversification, study, and revitalization of pulp fiction. In her spare time, Mac likes to write, read, run, sew, cook, and ride equestrian.
