The OPCD offers a variety of events throughout the academic year designed to help our students explore their career options and develop individual professional paths. Throughout the year, the OPCD offers a broad range of panel discussions, presentations, receptions, and workshops to provide students with the tools needed to develop successful careers.

Listed below are the events scheduled for the 2010 - 2011 academic year. Please note that certain events require students to RSVP.

I . Federal Clerkship Perspective from Former Judge and Career Clerks

Description: The Honorable Ralph G. Thompson ('61) will speak on how to begin your legal career as a federal judicial clerk and what judges expect during both the interview process and the clerkship. Retired Judge Thompson will bring career clerks with him to discuss their roles as career clerks.

II. Guided Tour of the OSCAR Application System Overview

Description: OPCD staff will give a demonstration of the OSCAR Application System, including how to research and create judge lists for mail-merge application letters and requesting faculty recommendation letters, as well as building online applications through the federal OSCAR system. Additionally, students will speak on the clerkship process and beginning your career as a federal clerk. The panelists have experience going through the clerkship process at both the district and circuit level. Panelists who have had a variety of clerkship experience, or are about to begin their clerkships, will discuss why you should apply for one of these valuable jobs.
