The following memos were sent out by Residence Life on Monday, December 9, 2024, to all undergraduates who reside on-campus, about winter intersession closings. Please refer to the memo that corresponds with your style of residence.

Dorm Memo

Dormitory-style residences will close for Winter intersession promptly at 12 noon, Saturday, December 21, 2024.

Residence dining service ends with dinner on Friday, December 20, 2024, and will begin again with dinner at Marciano Commons on Friday, January 17, 2025. For specific hours of operations, please refer to the  BU Dining website.

Residence mailrooms have adjusted hours of operations beginning Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Please refer to the BU Housing website for specific hours.

The BU Shuttle will run its normally scheduled service through Friday, December 20, 2024. Further information on intersession service as well as when routes will resume normal service will be posted at some point next week on both the BU Transportation Services site as well as the Terrier Transit app.

The BU Cycle Kitchen will be running a free winter storage program next week. Please visit this link for more information.

Before you go:

If you are NOT returning to your current residence assignment for the Spring 2025 semester, you must clean out and lock your room prior to leaving. You are required to return your keys to your Residence Life Office by 12 noon, Saturday, December 21, 2024. 

If you have a vacancy in your room assignment for the Spring 2025 semester, please be sure to clean common areas, including bathrooms, prior to leaving for break. This will provide a welcoming environment for all new residents.    

Beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2024, Residence Life staff members will enter all dormitory-style rooms to ensure that residents are vacating the premises in a timely fashion. Please take the following pre-departure steps:

• Do not forget your cell phone, medication, travel tickets,    passport, and Terrier Card
• Unplug all electrical appliances, including MicroFridges.
• Dispose of all items that may spoil in your absence.
• Throw out all trash and recycle your recyclables.
• Keep the heat on.
• Please turn off any water faucets within your accommodations.
• Please remove all mail from your mailbox.
• Lock all doors and windows in your room. Draw shades.
• Most importantly, do not forget your keys!
• Medication that needs to be refrigerated should be removed, as all micro fridges will be unplugged if they are left plugged in.
• Remove items from windowsills
• Do not leave cash, personal checks, etc. in room
• Remove or secure higher value personal items
• Reminder: BU does not insure student personal property. Information is provided on BU Housing portal for access to low-cost renter’s insurance or check with your parents/guardians for available coverage under an existing homeowner’s policy.

Vacation Housing:

Students residing in dormitory-style residences who wish to remain on campus during winter intersession must have applied for vacation housing by the December 2, 2024 deadline. Detailed information about vacation housing is available online at: www.bu.edu/housing. Students who submitted an application for vacation housing will be assigned to a double room with another BU student at a local hotel. Please email BU Housing at Housing@bu.edu, with specific questions.

When making your plans for Winter Intersession, please keep the following important dates in mind: 

• The Fall 2024 Goodwill – not Landfill clothing and housewares collection project will run from December 6, 2024 – December 20, 2024. For the exact location of collection bins, contact your Residence Life office. 
• 24-hour quiet hours begin at 5 p.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2024. 
• Final exams begin on Monday, December 16, 2024. 
• Final exams end on Friday, December 20, 2024.  
• Buildings open for Spring semester on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 10 a.m. 
• Spring semester classes begin on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Apartment Memo

Winter intersession begins at 12 noon, Saturday, December 21, 2024. Apartment-style residences will remain open throughout the winter intersession for residents with a full year 2024-2025 Residence License Agreement.  

Please be advised that Residence Life offices will close at 5 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2024, and reopen at 9 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025.   

If you wish to remain in your residence for any portion of the Winter Break,  you must sign up using this link  by Friday, December 13, 2024, at 12 noon.

Due to a large Agganis Arena event on Saturday, December 21, those in need of parking a vehicle to assist with move-out on this day should plan to exit their vehicle from parking lots no later than 11 a.m.

If you are in residence at any time during winter intersession, please employ the following security measures: 

• Be sure your apartment or suite doors are locked at all times. 
• Do not prop doors. 
• Do not open your door unless you can positively identify the person at the door. 
• Campus will be fairly quiet. You should avoid walking alone, especially late at night.  Please note the Scarlet Safe Walk  does not operate during winter intersession.  
• Report any suspicious behavior to Boston University Police at 617-353-2121.
