The David Leuschen Global Energy Fellows program is focused on addressing key challenges facing the global energy system and equipping students with the knowledge they need to be leaders in energy and climate policy.
Addressing the challenges facing the global energy system today and, in the years, ahead, will require leaders who are well-informed and fluent in issues of energy and climate policy.
The year-long program is designed to challenge students to think critically about relevant energy-related issues and facilitate engagement between Columbia students and CGEP experts. It also provides Columbia’s brightest energy-focused graduates with opportunities to build a career in energy.
Our team will handle the application processing, with a selection committee made up of SIPA faculty and administrators reviewing the submissions. Accepted students will be notified in December. Accepted students will be notified in December. The program will begin in mid-December and conclude in late September.

As part of the fellowship, students are required to complete a summer internship. The Center is pleased to provide full funding to eligible students who undertake unpaid summer internships. An acceptable internship must be related to energy/environment and must be completed during the summer.
The completed internship certification form and supported documents must be submitted to [email protected] by Friday, April 25, 2025. To be eligible for the stipend, all materials must be submitted by the due date.

working with the UN on impact finance and capital mobilization, financing SDGs in
Emerging and Frontier Markets, while simultaneously leading the Hydrogen Economy
draft bill in Colombia.Throughout my +12 years of experience, I've worked in the energy
sector as strategy advisor and project manager, both in the public and private domain.
I'm currently a member of the Global Expert Community of the World Energy Council
(WEC). Before joining SIPA I worked as Country & Regional Manager for a strategy
consulting firm in sustainable energy, after having worked for almost 6 years as
Manager for PwC Strategy& in the Strategy, Markets & Growth line of service. I've
served as Board Member for energy associations in Colombia; contributed as regional
speaker to the energy transition challenges and conversations; structured national
sectoral business plans and regional export strategies; advised the drafting of industrial
policies and also participated as fellow and lead author at the World Economic Forum
(WEF) for the Data for a Common Purpose Initiative.

Piyush Bhutani is a mission-driven policy professional with 8+ years of experience in climate and public health. His development journey spans across private sector initiatives, governments, and multilateral development banks in South Asia. Prior to joining Columbia University, he created the Climate and Health Institute at the Asian Development Bank.
FU Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science
Daniela is a Chemical Engineering PhD Candidate at Columbia University with research focused on designing electrocatalysts for efficient production of renewable fuels. She has worked on research projects focused on producing green hydrogen from seawater electrolysis
and ammonia from farm wastewater electrolysis. Her research is funded through her National Science Foundation Graduate Student Fellowship.
Daniela actively participates in the Women in Energy initiative at the Center of Global Energy
Policy, where she moderates panels with energy experts. Before graduate school, Daniela
interned at traditional energy companies such as ExxonMobil, Infineum, and Refinery
Automation Institute - as a process and project engineer.

Martina is pursuing her MPA in Energy and Environment at SIPA. She is interested
in promoting an energy transition that ensures energy justice, environmental
protection, and social and economic progress. Prior to SIPA, she was a senior
climate policy researcher at the Economist Group.

Eve is pursuing her MS in Sustainability Management. She graduated from the
University of Texas with degrees in Biology and Humanities and wrote her thesis on
the disproportionate impact of industrial air pollution on cancer rates in America. Eve
has experience in sustainability consulting focusing on sustainability analytics and
long-term strategy development.

Accepted students can expect to attend monthly energy-related discussions, receive full funding for a summer internship in the energy and climate field, access to internship search assistance, and exclusive professional, educational, and social opportunities.
