About this audiobook
Critically acclaimed author Nina Varela delivers a stunning sequel to the richly imagined queer epic fantasy Crier’s War, which SLJ called “perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass.”
For too long, Automae have lorded over the kingdom of Rabu, oppressing its human citizens. But the human revolution has risen, and at its heart is Ayla. Once a handmaiden, now a fugitive, Ayla narrowly escaped the palace of Lady Crier, the girl she would’ve killed if she hadn’t fallen in love first.
Now Ayla has pledged her allegiance to Queen Junn, who can help accomplish the human rebellion’s ultimate goal: destroy the Iron Heart. Without its power, the Automae will be weakened to the point of extinction. Ayla wants to succeed, but can’t shake the strong feelings she’s developed for Crier. And unbeknownst to her, Crier has also fled the palace, taking up among traveling rebels, determined to find and protect Ayla.
Even as their paths collide, nothing can prepare them for the dark secret underlying the Iron Heart.
Nina Varela
Nina Varela is a nationally awarded writer of screenplays and short fiction. She was born in New Orleans and raised on a hippie commune in Durham, North Carolina, where she spent most of her childhood playing in the Eno River, building faerie houses from moss and bark, and running barefoot through the woods. These days, Nina lives in Los Angeles with her writing partner and their tiny ill-behaved dog. She tends to write stories about young people toppling the monarchy/patriarchy/whatever-archy. On a related note, she’s queer. On a less related note, she has strong feelings about hush puppies and loves a good jambalaya. Crier’s War is her first novel. You can find Nina at any given coffee shop in the greater Los Angeles area or at www.ninavarela.com.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be an excellent book with a great story, well-detailed writing, and enjoyable characters. The ending is satisfying and the epilogue is heartwarming. Although there is a minor flaw with the pronoun play, it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the book. Highly recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A great continuation of the first book with all its strengths and weakness. I'd almost prefer if these were released as one book. I love these girls and their love helps fill me up and keep me going.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Cute, fun YA fantasy with a f/f romance at the heart. Nothing truly special or unique, but worth a few hours.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this, loose ends got tied up, the ending such great justice and the epilogue was so soft that I fell in love with the characters all over again.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really enjoyed this. The story, the characters, and the writing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5SUCH AN EXCELLENT BOOK, I ended up screaming at the end for more :'D ahh help :'v I need more!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What great story, well detailed and makes you sit at the edge of your chair... At the end, the caracter Erin and all that pronoun play was forced and did not serve the story, but 10 minutes of boredom is met with hours of great read. My highest recommendation!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very satisfying and packed with intrigue and action conclusion to this series. It was quite easy to slip back into this world and feel at home, a sign of a good sequel and the chemistry between Ayla and Crier builds so nicely. I'll look forward to more from this author in the future.
