About this audiobook
"The perfect binge listen." — Yahoo Lifestyle
Instant #1 New York Times bestseller.
The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.
Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.
Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....
More praise for The Silent Patient:
“Absolutely brilliant… I read it in a state of intense, breathless excitement.” — Stephen Fry
“Smart, sophisticated storytelling freighted with real suspense - a very fine novel by any standard.” — Lee Child
“The Silent Patient sneaks up on you like a slash of intimidating shadow on a badly lit street. Michaelides has crafted a totally original, spellbinding psychological mystery so quirky, so unique that it should have its own genre.” — David Baldacci

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow. WOW. WOOOOOW. Oh I love this. First of all I love the writing style - every single section was perfect and how Michaelides reveals information was just *muah* perfection. Honestly, I think I figured out the who-did-what-when by part 3/4 BUT the reveal still had me literally yelling exclamations. Also for those who like audio books Louise Brealey narrates Alicia's chapters and all I have to say if if this becomes a movie she better well play the role in person as well!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved the twists and turns but I do feel it lagged a little. Not sure if it was because I was listening instead of reading the book. The end was a total surprise which gives a great deal of credit to the author’s imagination and ability to create a form of trust in his characters.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So.., I just finished listening to this. I set the speed by 1.2 because it was really good, sometimes 1.5. Perhaps other people have different reaction to the ending, but to me, it was really sad. Kind of like my feeling when I watched Joker.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5There is no way I would have guessed the ending of this story. At one point I had to stop and re-listen to one of the chapters. I listened to this book in one day. It was amazing! Also, the narrators were well-spoken and their performance was fantastic!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really fantastic. I've read more than a bit of whodunit books, from Christi to more modern authors and I think besides for Christi herself this is probably the best I've read. The author set out to write a Christi like book but with more character deapth and feeling, and I think this was a success. Still although i find it hard to grasp I do believe it has less of a mathematical whodunit precision. Also the psychology gives it a bit of a dark mood. All in all a great work.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was engrossing from start to finish. I listened to it on Scribd, and initially didn't think I would enjoy the male narrator's voice who appears most frequently in the audiobook, but it definitely grew on me. There are two narrators, one male, and one female.
A quick synopsis, Alicia and Gabriel live a seemingly happy life as husband and wife, until one day, Alicia shoots Gabriel in the face five times after he returns home and refuses to utter a word going forward. Alicia is sentenced to a mental hospital where Dr. Theo attempts to use psychotherapy to get Alicia to speak and reveal what happened that fateful night.
The story is told in both past and present tenses and we get excerpts from Alicia's diary both leading up to and following the killing of her husband.
What takes place in the unfolding of this story is one that I did not see coming up until it happened. I actually had to pause the audiobook to rethink what I had just heard in order to comprehend what had just happened. The mystery behind Alicia's silence and the disturbing events of that night totally took me by surprise and offered the rare treat of allowing the reader to enjoy the telling of the story coupled with the coupled shocking ending.1 person found this helpful
