Vandal was born in 1939 in Paisley, Scotland, the middle son of the youngest member of the family of Grandpa and Granny Vandal. He left school at the age of 15 and had a variety of employments including labouring for a drilling firm at the oil terminal at Sullom Voe in the Shetland Isles.
After reading English at Strathclyde University in Glasgow he spent twenty-five years teaching English, including creative writing, to pupils in a local authority Secondary School.
When he retired, to keep himself active, he began to research the history, and to some extent the mystery, of the Vandal family. This book is his interpretation of the data collected during that research.view less
