About this ebook

(Book Six of the Graveyard Shift series and a paranormal short story. While this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone.)

Stefan Koryavin is a penguin shifter who works as Dimitri’s assistant in the Phantom Creek Mortuary. Stefan originally wanted to become a medical examiner that worked with the police, but becoming a fugitive threw a wrench in those plans. Studying under Dimitri to become a mortician is the closest he could get to his dream without tipping off the council. With Phantom Creek being so small and remote, the chances of the council finding him are slim to none...or so he thinks. When a bounty hunter shows up in Phantom Creek, Stefan realizes he’s tired of running and wants to stay. But without the ability to fight back running is the only option.

Tristan Via is a warlock and a seer who uses his ability to predict the future to help in his job as a bounty hunter. When a premonition from a picture gives him an idea of where to look for his current target, Tristan doesn’t hesitate to make the trip. But even in the small town of Phantom Creek, the search won’t be easy since the only clue he has to go on is the single image from his vision. Or so he thinks. Tristan is patient though and confident in his ability despite the fact that this vision was vague on details like day and time. It won’t be long before he catches the fugitive he’s after.

When Tristan and Stefan collide, Tristan couldn’t be happier. There’s just one problem...Stefan is still a fugitive. When the man who committed the crime finds out he’s being investigated he’ll stop at nothing to tie up loose ends. Can Tristan and Stefan turn the tables and end this fight before they lose their lives or will the enemy get to them first?

Well Ezra isn't my real name obviously but I liked the name so I decided to use it. I live at home with my five dogs and one cat. I started out writing hetero romance novels but it wasn't where my heart lied. I adore all things paranormal and M/M is by far my favorite genre so I decided to start writing Paranormal Romances. There's a guaranteed happy ending with each of my books even if it may take some time for my guys to get there. I love each and every character on the page as if they were my own children. It sounds weird but that’s how I feel about them. ? I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember but only started actively pursuing it as a career three years ago when I decided to stop working in a salon and pursue writing full time. Since I published my first book in 2014 I have written and released nine other books with many more to come. My current list of projects is longer than my arm so I look forward to writing and creating new stories for my readers to enjoy ?

    Ten Years Ago…

I wake up to the sound of glass breaking. Before I can get out of bed to check things out, I hear footsteps on the stairs. Multiple sets. Rolling out of bed, I crawl underneath it to hide. There’s a loud roar followed by cursing and the unmistakable sound of people shifting. Squeezing my eyes shut, I cover my ears, but it does nothing to mute the awful sounds of fighting that moves from the hallway and down the stairs.

When it’s finally quiet, I crawl out from under the bed and sneak over to the closed door. Quietly cracking it, I peek out. Not seeing anything but the shredded clothes left behind, I make my way to the stairs but before I get there I lay down on the floor and crawl over until I can peek through the posts. Everything is trashed with blood and fur everywhere. In the center of the destruction is a group of naked men standing over the lion I know to be my adoptive father. He’s covered in blood and barely breathing.

Tears prick my eyes, but I cover my mouth, choking back the sob that wants to break free. If I alert them to my presence, I’m done for. The front door slamming open draws the men’s attention including mine. Seeing the person who walks in makes my blood run cold. My father’s second in command, the one who’ll take his seat on the council when he dies, walks over to where my father lays and says, You should’ve stepped down when you had the chance. Then, he pulls out a gun and fires.

When he turns his attention to his men and asks, Did you take care of the kid? I know it’s time for me to get the hell out of dodge. Moving as fast as I can, I head for my room. There’s no time to pack anything, much as I wish there was. Opening my window, I climb out of it as footsteps pound on the stairs. Running across the roof, I jump off into the tree next to the house. I’ve done this thousands of times so swinging from the branches to the ground is a piece of cake.

Gunfire and shouting pursue me as I race into the woods behind the house. Branches and rocks cut into my bare feet and the cold air chills my exposed skin. Fire lights my shoulder as a bullet pierces it but I push through the pain and keep going. Right before I reach the river another bullet pierces my leg sending me crashing to the ground. Knowing I’ll be dead if the men catch up to me, I force myself to stand and limp my way to the water’s edge. Footsteps crashing through the woods behind me spur me into action. Dropping the boxers I’m wearing; I initiate my shift and dive into the river.

Before I hit the water, another bullet grazes my back sending more white-hot agony through my system. I have to fight to stay conscious as I let the river’s current drag me away. If the blood loss doesn’t kill me then losing consciousness definitely will. I don’t know how long I’ve been in the river before spots start to dance across my vision. Knowing I’ll lose consciousness soon, I swim towards the shore, each movement sending sparks of pain through my flipper making me want to throw up before I pass out.

Shifting back so I can pull myself up the embankment and out of the water takes the last of my energy. I see a small wolf pack coming through the trees and try not to laugh at the irony. Escaped death only to fall right into its clutches again. If this is how I’m going to die at least it’ll mean something. Being wolf food is better than dying at the hands of a bunch of psychopaths and being left to rot.

The last thing I see before I succumb to the darkness is the big wolf leading the pack initiating a shift.

I was twelve years old when my birth parents abandoned me. The car had barely stopped when they threw me out in front of a fire station in Arkansas and drove off. At the time, I didn’t understand why they’d left me when all I’d done was ask if I could have a dress too when we’d gone shopping that day. It was my mother’s birthday and she’d wanted a new dress to wear to dinner that night. Up until that
