Thursday, November 21st at 6:30 PM: The Art of the Haggadah, 1350-1400 with Abby Kornfeld

Abby Kornfeld will be discussing how art functions on the folios of three Haggadah manuscripts. Images enrich the Haggadah’s interpretive possibilities, provide models (and directives) for rituals, and render faith into form. While some images seem to present a window onto medieval ritual, others appear as monumental abstractions. All these images carry multiple—sometimes contradictory—meanings at once, imbuing the Haggadahs with tremendous intellectual, religio-historical, and creative force.
