really liked it

I had heard parts and parcels of this book on various news networks. Heard and watched the author interviews. This book covers the end of the Mango Mussolini's term and the beginning of Bidens. The insurrection and what was happening in the White House. Sounded intriguing but also frightening. I had promised myself that I would not buy another book about the narcissistic man child and I didn't. This book was given to my husband by a friend if his and after having it's cover stare at me, I picked it up and didn't really put it down until I finished.

Perhaps frightening is an understatement, because what is revealed in this book was to me, truly evil. I would like to be able to keep my head buried in the sand, pretend that our country is fine, our democracy not at stake, but that's what many others did and continue to do. All horrific world events, particularly the Holocaust, did not happen in a vacuum but in steps, actions undertaken and many too afraid to raise their heads.

This book is an important one in understanding the risks associated with having an unstable man leading our country. It is both an explanation and a warning.

May It is sitting on the bookcase. Finishing a few others before I start this one. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Carmel Hanes What's truly frightening is that we aren't done with this horrible chapter...

message 3: by Cheri (new)

Cheri Excellent review, Diane! It is truly a frightening era we are living in, and it seems to slowly be getting worse, or perhaps the covid deniers etc are just becoming more vocal and obnoxious.

message 4: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Terrific review, Diane . I still can’t bring myself to read these books , but I highly respect both of these reporters and authors .

Lorna A great review, Diane. This book chilled me to the core. We all need to heed the warnings inherent in this book.

message 6: by Jonetta (new) - added it

Jonetta Excellent review, Diane. I’m too heartsick to listen to the book (I have it). I’m stupefied by the many people willing to stand by and continue to support the demise of our values and democracy.

message 7: by Christine (new)

Christine This review gives me freaking chills, Diane, and not the good kind!!! Not to say the review wasn’t great as usual.

Looking forward to your thoughts as well, May.

I know, Carmel. Scary indeed.

Thank you, Cheri. For our children and grandchildren I am most concerned. What kind of world are we leaving them?

Thanks Angela. I understand, these books are so upsetting.

Thank you, Lorna. Chilling indeed.

Mark Porton Great review Diane, you're very brave reading more about this monster of a man. I am trying my best to repress him. Nice review all the same!

Thank you Jonetta. Too much fear and hate and people who are willing to believe false flags and misinformation.

Thanks Christine. It is chilling and upsetting to contemplate where our country is heading

Canadian Jen The politics are scary there, Diane. I was in pins and needles for most of Trump’s reign and anxious for the American people. Hopefully he won’t get back in but with some much division,,,,who knows? You can always come north :)
Great review and I have respect for both of these journalists.

Diane S ☔ Mark wrote: "Great review Diane, you're very brave reading more about this monster of a man. I am trying my best to repress him. Nice review all the same!"

Thanks Mark. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like he is going away. I just hope justice finally catches up to him.

Thanks Jen. I agree and have felt the same. He certainly brought the ugly in America out in the open.

Jan C Good review, Diane. I've started listening to it. It is frightening. Voting yesterday I noticed a house with the banner that he won. These are my neighbors. Even if he were sent to jail it wouldn't stop these people. Locally we had a victory and snuck in a Democrat as mayor - it was a non-partisan race.

message 20: by Barbara (new)

Barbara I appreciate your review Diane. 🙂

Once you know who was (thankfully) out of office I couldn't bear to read another book about him. Maybe some time in the future.

message 21: by Libby (new)

Libby It feels needful to try and understand exactly what happened during that critical time. Just placed this one on my TBR list. A compelling review, Diane.

B J Another book to my TBR list but also put on my library hold list. If I'm honest with myself my hold list is my real TBR list.

Thank you Jan. Unfortunately I don't see these people going away either. He has unleashed the ugly and the stupid.

Thanks Barbara, I under stand and that's probably a good decision for ones mental health.

Thanks Libby. Not sure I'll ever understand no matter how much I read.

Oh yes, our hold lists. I'm with you there

HR-ML Diane S----

Great review. He was/ is a danger to our democracy. I've read many
books about him. He readily admits he enjoys creating chaos.

Diane S ☔ I couldn't agree more HR and thank you.

You tell us about the book w/o giving 'spoilers.'

Jean Just finished this. The best part was the prologue. I have Mary Trump’s book, The Reckoning: Our Nation's Trauma and Finding a Way to Heal, on hold (from Libby) from the library, but I don’t know how much more I can bear to read about this. Yet, I feel it’s important to stay informed.
