I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire.

For some mystical, magical reason, early in the process, my vampires appeared with enormous beautiful wings and it has been the most amazing experience to include flight in my novels, in both battle scenes and scenes involving spectacle. What a thrill it has been to live with my ascended vampires through the creation of this extraordinary, multi-dimensional world!

This story is all about Duncan who is caught in a trance by my latest villainess, Yolanthe, a Third Earth vampire who wants control over Duncan's future powers. Enter, Rachel, who has powers of her own though a complete unwillingness to engage with the ongoing war against the death vampires. The best part: Duncan and Rachel have been lovers off and on for decades, so AWAKENING is the first of three books that reveals their romance, growth, and expanding powers. I think the idea for this story essentially came from my desire to expand the Guardians of Ascension world and take my readers into an entirely new world: Third Earth. (less)

I love that you LOVE this series! I love writing it! I have 10 books planned total and the 10th book will belong to Endelle. She deserves love after serving for 9000 years.
