Ohio State’s victory over Notre Dame averaged 22.1 million viewers across ESPN’s channels, dominating the Jan. 20 primetime ratings. But the later date for the game — the championship usually fell on the second Monday of January in the four-team playoff era — may have pushed the audience down some compared to last year; the audience fell by about 12 percent (from 25.05 million). Still, the game drew the largest non-NFL primetime audience on TV in the past year.
