In Seven Cemeteries, a recent parolee (Danny Trejo) gets a Mexican witch to resurrect his old posse so that they can help him save a woman's ranch from a ruthless drug lord.
The movie also stars Sal Lopez, Samantha Ashley, Efren Ramirez, Vincent M. Ward, Lew Temple, Richard Esteras, and Maria Canals-Barrera, and is every bit as delightfully bonkers as it sounds.
You don't need us to tell you that Trejo is an icon and his many credits include the likes of Con Air, Machete, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Breaking Bad, and Dusk till Dawn. Earlier this week, we had the good fortune to sit down with Danny to discuss his role as Bravo in this action-packed supernatural romp from filmmaker John Gulager.

Back in the spring, we got the surprising news that one of Netflix's many original movies featuring comedian Adam Sandler was going to be a sequel to the beloved sports comedy "Happy Gilmore." That's right, the hockey player who wasn't too strong on ice skates but had one hell of a drive off the golf tee is coming back for a new movie. We're still waiting to see what the story will be this time, but during a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show" to promote his new comedy special "Adam Sandler: Love You," the Sandman took some time to hype up "Happy Gilmore 2," and he even confirmed one of the big cameos we'll see in the movie.
As Sandler told host Jimmy Fallon and the live audience:
"People have been asking me for a long time, 'Do Happy Gilmore 2,' and I was always like, 'Nah, I'll only let you down.

Nearly six years after the release of his last comedy special, Adam Sandler is returning to Netflix with “Adam Sandler: Love You.” The comedy special directed by “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems” co-director Josh Safdie will premiere globally on the streamer Aug. 27.
The first trailer for the special shows Sandler in a surprisingly intimate theater rather than a large arena. After joking with the audience a bit, he gets down to the brass tacks of what everyone can expect.
“Anyway, I talk a lot and then I sing and then we do a bunch of s–t. All right, so here it goes,” Sandler says.
The ever-moving camera then cuts between Sandler onstage with mic in hand, closeups of him signing shirts and a car driving away as its being chased by a crowd of people. “We’ve lost control,” Sandler says as a dog appears from backstage and happily greets the audience.

No other cast details have been given so far, but the movie is said to be already in the works.

Endless rumors about Happy Gilmore’s potential sequel have been in the air for a while, with Sandler himself and his friend and ex-co-star Drew Barrymore teasing that the 1990s comedy is likely to get a second installment.

Loving Adam Sandler means making your peace with the actor's wildly inconsistent output. It's not like The Sandman has ever been a critical darling; even during his rise to superstardom in the '90s, "Happy Gilmore" and "The Wedding Singer" were the only movies of his that you could reasonably call well-reviewed (and that's coming from an ardent "Billy Madison" defender). But the films that he's churned out under his Happy Madison Productions, which was founded in 1999, have been all over the place quality-wise. Even most die-hard Sandlites probably wouldn't go to the mattresses over stinkers like "Jack and Jill" and "Grown Ups 2."
That's only become doubly true since Sandler entered his alliance with Netflix in the 2010s. Sometimes, you end up with little more than "content" for viewers to stream and immediately forget, but you can also get remarkably good stuff like "The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected...

Adam Sandler’s multi-year deal with Netflix has resulted in movies reviled (The Ridiculous 6), revered (Uncut Gems), and — with the new film Spaceman — bewildering and deliberately open to interpretation. “It’s like reading a book, listening to a song, or reading a poem, whatever,” director Johan Renck told RadioTimes.com. “Your own experiences will guide how you take in the film, basically.” So, what’s up with Spaceman’s ending? And what does it all mean? Here’s what we’ve gleaned… In the film — written by Colby Day and based on the Jaroslav Kalfař novel Spaceman of Bohemia — Sandler plays Jakub Procházka, a Czech astronaut six months into a Euro Space Program mission to investigate the mysterious space dust of our solar system’s (fictitious) Chopra cloud. As the sole astronaut on the mission, Jakub has ample time to reflect on his life, including his failing relationship with...

Adam Sandler has set a new comedy special at Netflix — this time directed by Josh Safdie.
The project continues Sandler’s string of collaborations with Safie, who co-directed him in 2019’s “Uncut Gems” alongside his brother Benny Safdie. Sandler also starred in the brothers’ 2020 short film “Goldman v. Silverman” and is set to lead an upcoming feature set in the world of sports memorabilia to be directed by Josh and produced by Benny, though the latter told Variety in January that the film was “on pause.”
Currently untitled, the special will be Sandler’s second at Netflix, following up on his 2018 set “100% Fresh” — which went on to receive a 90% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Sandler has worked on numerous projects for Netflix: In 2023, he led the voice cast of the streamer’s animated musical comedy film “Leo” and starred opposite Idina Menzel in “You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah,...

Netflix viewers love Snyder’s critically mauled sci-fi film and Christopher Nolan has suggested he is a seminal influence. Is this a triumphant rise from the ashes of the DC extended universe ?
What does it mean that Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon was this week sitting pretty at the top of the Netflix Top 10, other than that viewers of the app will watch pretty much anything? This is after all, the streaming service that gave Adam Sandler, the actor-producer behind such totems of modern cinema as Jack and Jill, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Grown Ups 2 a multiple movie contract as far back as 2014. One of the films that sprang fully formed from that deal like a putrid zombie hydra head was 2015’s execrable The Ridiculous 6, which boasts an impressive 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But boy was it popular – maybe these guys just know their audience.

While Greta Gerwig’s directing career skyrocketed with Barbie, it shouldn’t be overlooked that the screenplay for the year’s biggest movie was co-written by Marriage Story‘s Noah Baumbach. Baumbach would also produce the film alongside Gerwig and Barbie star Margot Robbie. Baumbach’s career with Netflix consists of three features in addition to Marriage Story, including White Noise and The Meyerowitz Stories, starring Adam Sandler.
Baumbach is now tapped to helm his fourth project with the streamer. He’ll be reuniting with Sandler and pairing him with George Clooney for the new project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The details for the movie’s plot has yet to be revealed, but Baumbach is also on board as a producer on the movie. He will be joined by Sony’s Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers. Heyman had also worked with Baumbach on Marriage Story and also produced Barbie.

Since 1989, Adam Sandler has been one of the busiest men in Hollywood. Not only is he a prolific funnyman on screen, but he's also got his own production company, Happy Madison, that has cranked out over 25 feature films. Sandler inked a lucrative exclusivity deal with Netflix a few years back and has been churning out films for them to varying degrees of success.
Sure, Sandler has made some sophomoric films, and many include questionable casting choices/characterizations that don't hold up in our contemporary culture (like every role Rob Schneider has ever played), but he's also been unfairly used as a punching bag by snobbish cinephiles despite the overwhelming evidence that he's a comedic genius. When he won Best Male Lead at the Independent Spirit Awards following his egregious Oscars snub for "Uncut Gems," his acceptance speech included the now-viral line, "I'd also like to give a shout-out to my fellow nominees,...

Forget the Chris Rock live-standup success or the “Love Is Blind” reunion’s epic failure: The real benchmark to Netflix exploring live sports should be based on… Universal “Sing 2.”

For better or worse, Lost was one of the most influential shows of the past couple of decades. Adam Sandler has made an admission about the critical reception to his films.
Throughout his career, the actor’s choices have been regularly ridiculed by reviewers, who have given several of his films bad write-ups.
Films including Little Nicky, Grown-Ups, The Ridiculous 6 and Sandy Wexler have been torn apart by crtiics, and Sandler has acknowledged that, at first, such a reception came as a shock to him when he started writing and leading his own films in the mid-1990s.
“When Billy Madison came out, me and my friend who wrote it, we were just like, ‘Oh yeah, they’re going to write about this in New York!’” Deadline reports the actor as saying.
“We read the first one and we were like, ‘Oh my god, what happened? They hate us.’ And then we were like, ‘It must have been this paper,’ but then 90 per cent of the papers are going,...

Adam Sandler has said that he stopped reading reviews after the harsh criticism of Billy Madison.
The actor opened up about his views on film critics during a recent Netflix conversation for his recent movie Hustle.
Sandler, 56, said that he stopped paying attention to reviews after his 1995 comedy Bill Madison was torn apart by film critics.
Although the comedy – which Sandler co-wrote with Tim Herlily – is generally recognised to be a staple in the actor’s body of work, he recalled that 90 per cent of film critics called it “garbage” when it was released.
“When I was 17 and I got into this, I didn’t think about critics… I didn’t even realise that stuff was coming,” he said.
“I just thought you made movies, people go see it. When Billy Madison came out, me and my friend who wrote it, we were just like, ‘Oh yeah, they’re going...

If your childhood consisted of late '90s and early 2000s animation, then the name Genndy Tartakovsky should sound familiar to you. He's the animator behind shows like "Samurai Jack," "The Powerpuff Girls," and "Dexter's Laboratory." Decades later, Tartakovsky is still going strong in the world of animation with the more adult-focused "Primal," which /Film's Sarah Milner called "big, bold, and bloody" in her review.
In terms of what Tartakovsky has brought to the big screen, however, the first three "Hotel Transylvania" movies are a wonderful example of what happens when you let someone with a vivid imagination helm an animated film. Better yet, these movies are the result of taking all of the Classic Universal Monsters and formatting them into a family-friendly animated vehicle that shows a softer side.
Although another Halloween has come and gone, it would appear that "Hotel Transylvania 2," in particular, has held strong in...

Adam Sandler is taking part in an impressive Best Actor awards campaign for Hustle.
The sports drama was released on Netflix in June, and stars Sandler as an NBA scout who discovers a talented basketball player (Juancho Hernangómez) in Spain.
For the film, the actor received some of the best reviews of his career.
While his previous films for Netflix, including The Ridiculous 6, Sandy Wexler and Murder Mystery, were all torn apart by critics, Hustle was well regarded, and led to him breaking an impressive Rotten Tomatoes record.
On Wednesday (26 October), the Academy hosted an awards screening for Hustle, which is said to have received a warm response. Sandler was in attendance, and participated in a Q&a that was moderated by US chat show host Jimmy Fallon.

Say goodbye to your calm demeanor, folks, because Adam Sandler and the Safdie Brothers (Josh and Benny) are teaming up for another project on Netflix. The group will join forces for an untitled feature starring Sandler, who in 2019 brought the directing duo’s Howard Ratner to life in Uncut Gems. The crime drama is about a jeweler with crippling debt and angry collectors closing in who puts everything on the line to stay afloat and alive. Uncut Gems was a critical success, despite being one of the most intense and uncomfortable movies ever conceived.
During his Hustle press tour, Sandler let the word slip about his next project with the Safdies. A platform was not attached to the project then, though it’s unsurprising that Netflix is now the home of Adam Sandler’s untitled feature. Though whispers indicate the Safdie Brothers are still finalizing the script, the studio plans...

Exclusive: Nick Nolte (Graves) and Jacqueline Bisset (Birds of Paradise) will star alongside Oliver Masucci (Fantastic Bests: The Secrets of Dumbledore) in Shelter Me, a pandemic-set psychological drama marking the directorial debut of actor Jake Weber.
The film will be Nolte and Bisset’s third together, on the heels of Peter Yates’ 1977 treasure-hunter adventure The Deep, based on Peter Benchley’s 1976 novel of the same name, and Til Schweiger’s 2018 Alzheimer’s dramedy, Head Full of Honey.
Shelter Me is an anthology of storylines set against the international backdrop of Covid-19. Masucci portrays Jon Boylan, an A.I. research scientist who is unable to intimately connect with members of his test group (Nolte and Bisset). He subsequently develops a remote monitoring system that exposes personal struggles, weaknesses and strengths during isolation that come to a reckoning, as their layers of personality begin to peel away.

Adam Sandler earned strong reviews for his performance in Netflix’s “Hustle” earlier this year, but such acclaim is few and far between in the comedian’s filmography. For every “Hustle” or “Uncut Gems,” there’s an onslaught of comedies like “Murder Mystery,” “Hubie Halloween,” “The Ridiculous 6,” “Blended” and more. Film critics often have their knives out for Sandler, especially when it comes to his non-“Hustle” Netflix comedies, and he recently admitted to AARP that negative reviews can “sometimes” sting.
“Mostly because I invite all these amazing people I care about to make movies with me,” Sandler said, “and I wish they didn’t have to read shit about whatever we’ve made.”
With that said, Sandler added that “I don’t get too shook up” when it comes to critics bashing his movies.
“I always remember something my father said,” Sandler continued. “He was a tough bastard.

For the most part, Adam Sandler's multi-film deals with Netflix have led to him making more of his bread-and-butter broad comedies (like "The Ridiculous 6" and "Murder Mystery"). In between those releases, however, he also carved out time to go star in Noah Baumbach's critically-acclaimed dramedy "The Meyerowitz Stories" for Netflix and work on the Safdie Brothers' nerve-racking hit "Uncut Gems" for A24. Most recently, the Sandman starred in Netflix's "Hustle," a perfectly sturdy underdog sports flick that bridged the gap between his arthouse and mainstream pictures. His next film for Netflix, the astronaut drama...

Adam Sandler will portray an astronaut in Netflix’s untitled adaptation of Jaroslav Kalfar’s novel “The Spaceman of Bohemia.”
The story centers on an astronaut sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious, ancient dust, when he finds his earthly life falling to pieces. He turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together — a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.
Johan Renck, whose credits include “Chernobyl,” “Last Panthers,” and “Downloading Nancy,” is directing from a script by Colby Day.

In the weeks before the 2020 Academy Award nominations were set to be announced, Adam Sandler was a guest on The Howard Stern Show. During his conversation with the host, Sandler joked that if he wasn’t handed a Best Actor statue for his role as the beleaguered Howard Ratner in last year’s critically acclaimed stress fest Uncut Gems, he’d take revenge on the world by making an absolutely awful film in response to that perceived slight.
“If I don’t get it, I’m going to fucking come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay,” he said. “That’s how I get them.”
Despite such tongue-in-cheek fist-shaking from Sandler, everyone perked up a bit when Netflix announced that its next feature film project with the comedian, Hubie Halloween, would be coming to streaming before the end of the year.

Adam Sandler fans are in for a very “Hubie Halloween” when the upcoming family comedy film hits Netflix on October 7. Sandler stars in “Hubie Halloween” as Hubie DuBois, a well-intentioned but dopey and frequently-mocked community volunteer who spends each Halloween exhaustively ensuring his neighbors celebrate the holiday safely. The film will follow Hubie as he finds himself at the center of a real murder investigation during one Halloween night.
Sandler stars in “Hubie Halloween” alongside Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Maya Rudolph, Rob Schneider, Kenan Thompson, Steve Buscemi, Michael Chiklis, Tim Meadows, Noah Schnapp, Paris Berelc, China Anne McClain and Shaquille O’Neal. It’s probably not a stretch to say that Adam Sandler is one of the most divisive actors out there. Sure, most of his stuff does well at the box office, while his streaming efforts always pull in huge numbers for Netflix, but his lowbrow comedies are routinely bashed by critics, who often call him out for phoning in his performances.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, a forgotten movie starring Adam Sandler, has been in the Netflix top 10 films list for almost an entire week at this point, currently sitting in the #8 spot on the chart.
Originally released in 2007, the pic stars Sandler alongside Kevin James and Jessica Biel. Directed by Dennis Dugan and written by Barry Fanaro and Alexander Payne, it tells the story of two Brooklyn men who pretend to be a gay couple in an effort to receive domestic partner benefits.
Although the subject matter may be a little bit tasteless by today’s political standards, the film still offers a somewhat decent performance from Sandler, who’s starred in numerous comedies throughout his career that follow a very similar formula as this one does. Most of those efforts, however, were not well-received.

The movie, released on Netflix June 5, has a 0% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, which means none of the 26 critical reviews tabulated by the site were positive. Overall, the site assigned a 2.27 out of 10 rating for the film across reviewers.
“The Last Days of American Crime” joins only 42 other films (with at least 20 reviews) to receive the dubious distinction of getting a Tomatometer goose egg, including Netflix’s “The Ridiculous 6” from Adam Sandler, “Gotti” starring John Travolta, 1990’s “Problem Child,” “Staying Alive” (also starring Travolta) and “Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol.”
The consensus is that, with protests nationwide over the police killing of George Floyd, the timing of the movie’s release is a disaster.

Adam Sandler and Netflix have found their next project, with indie breakout director Jeremiah Zagar at the helm. As announced by Netflix on Monday, “Hustle” will unite Sandler with the “We the Animals” filmmaker, with a script from Taylor Materne and Will Fetters, who was a screenwriter on 2018’s “A Star Is Born.” IndieWire has reached out to Netflix, which has confirmed that “Hustle” will be a comedy.
The film stars Sandler as an American basketball scout who is unjustly fired after discovering a once-in-a-lifetime player abroad, the scout decides to bring him to the States to prove that they both have what it takes to make it in the NBA. The film is the latest entry in Sandler’s ongoing pact with Netflix, both in front of and behind the camera, which has yielded such comedies as “Murder Mystery,” “The Ridiculous 6,” “The Do-Over,” and more, as well as...

Proving that taste is somewhat relative, Netflix subscribers have reportedly consumed over 2 billion hours of Adam Sandler material since the 2015 release of his movie The Ridiculous 6 on the streaming platform. Sandler, who has a deal with Netflix for original content, has produced the likes of The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, Murder Mystery, and 100% Fresh since 2014, and has four new movies in development. What, then, can account for the un-satiable interest in Sandler’s output among Netflix subscribers?
Although the Happy Madison pics for Netflix have been routinely slammed by critics, they’ve been delivering significant audiences to the streaming site, and also featured in the most popular overall content on the platform last year with Murder Mystery. In terms of Sandler’s popularity, we were surprised (and even a little dismayed) by Netflix extending his deal in 2017, but the millions of people turning up for his comedies may actually be onto something.
