Back in the spring, we got the surprising news that one of Netflix's many original movies featuring comedian Adam Sandler was going to be a sequel to the beloved sports comedy "Happy Gilmore." That's right, the hockey player who wasn't too strong on ice skates but had one hell of a drive off the golf tee is coming back for a new movie. We're still waiting to see what the story will be this time, but during a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show" to promote his new comedy special "Adam Sandler: Love You," the Sandman took some time to hype up "Happy Gilmore 2," and he even confirmed one of the big cameos we'll see in the movie.

As Sandler told host Jimmy Fallon and the live audience:

"People have been asking me for a long time, 'Do Happy Gilmore 2,' and I was always like, 'Nah, I'll only let you down.

Nearly six years after the release of his last comedy special, Adam Sandler is returning to Netflix with “Adam Sandler: Love You.” The comedy special directed by “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems” co-director Josh Safdie will premiere globally on the streamer Aug. 27.

The first trailer for the special shows Sandler in a surprisingly intimate theater rather than a large arena. After joking with the audience a bit, he gets down to the brass tacks of what everyone can expect.

“Anyway, I talk a lot and then I sing and then we do a bunch of s–t. All right, so here it goes,” Sandler says.

The ever-moving camera then cuts between Sandler onstage with mic in hand, closeups of him signing shirts and a car driving away as its being chased by a crowd of people. “We’ve lost control,” Sandler says as a dog appears from backstage and happily greets the audience.

Netflix is known for its continuous mission to bring old comedy movies back to life on its platform, but this time the streaming giant is going bigger. It’s just been confirmed that Netflix will helm a sequel for Adam Sandler’s 1996 beloved comedy Happy Gilmore with Sandler reprising his iconic role.

No other cast details have been given so far, but the movie is said to be already in the works.

What Will the Happy Gilmore Sequel Be About?

Endless rumors about Happy Gilmore’s potential sequel have been in the air for a while, with Sandler himself and his friend and ex-co-star Drew Barrymore teasing that the 1990s comedy is likely to get a second installment.

Adam Sandler has set a new comedy special at Netflix — this time directed by Josh Safdie.

The project continues Sandler’s string of collaborations with Safie, who co-directed him in 2019’s “Uncut Gems” alongside his brother Benny Safdie. Sandler also starred in the brothers’ 2020 short film “Goldman v. Silverman” and is set to lead an upcoming feature set in the world of sports memorabilia to be directed by Josh and produced by Benny, though the latter told Variety in January that the film was “on pause.”

While Greta Gerwig’s directing career skyrocketed with Barbie, it shouldn’t be overlooked that the screenplay for the year’s biggest movie was co-written by Marriage Story‘s Noah Baumbach. Baumbach would also produce the film alongside Gerwig and Barbie star Margot Robbie. Baumbach’s career with Netflix consists of three features in addition to Marriage Story, including White Noise and The Meyerowitz Stories, starring Adam Sandler.

Baumbach is now tapped to helm his fourth project with the streamer. He’ll be reuniting with Sandler and pairing him with George Clooney for the new project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Throughout his career, the actor’s choices have been regularly ridiculed by reviewers, who have given several of his films bad write-ups.

Films including Little Nicky, Grown-Ups, The Ridiculous 6 and Sandy Wexler have been torn apart by crtiics, and Sandler has acknowledged that, at first, such a reception came as a shock to him when he started writing and leading his own films in the mid-1990s.

The actor opened up about his views on film critics during a recent Netflix conversation for his recent movie Hustle.

Sandler, 56, said that he stopped paying attention to reviews after his 1995 comedy Bill Madison was torn apart by film critics.

Although the comedy – which Sandler co-wrote with Tim Herlily – is generally recognised to be a staple in the actor’s body of work, he recalled that 90 per cent of film critics called it “garbage” when it was released.

The film will be Nolte and Bisset’s third together, on the heels of Peter Yates’ 1977 treasure-hunter adventure The Deep, based on Peter Benchley’s 1976 novel of the same name, and Til Schweiger’s 2018 Alzheimer’s dramedy, Head Full of Honey.

Shelter Me is an anthology of storylines set against the international backdrop of Covid-19. Masucci portrays Jon Boylan, an A.I. research scientist who is unable to intimately connect with members of his test group (Nolte and Bisset). He subsequently develops a remote monitoring system that exposes personal struggles, weaknesses and strengths during isolation that come to a reckoning, as their layers of personality begin to peel away.

Adam Sandler earned strong reviews for his performance in Netflix’s “Hustle” earlier this year, but such acclaim is few and far between in the comedian’s filmography. For every “Hustle” or “Uncut Gems,” there’s an onslaught of comedies like “Murder Mystery,” “Hubie Halloween,” “The Ridiculous 6,” “Blended” and more. Film critics often have their knives out for Sandler, especially when it comes to his non-“Hustle” Netflix comedies, and he recently admitted to AARP that negative reviews can “sometimes” sting.

“Mostly because I invite all these amazing people I care about to make movies with me,” Sandler said, “and I wish they didn’t have to read shit about whatever we’ve made.”

The problematic sequel to Netflix’s 2020 viral hit officially has followed its predecessor by landing a 0 percent Rotten Tomatoes critics score and a somehow even lower audience score. The original Polish erotic thriller following Sicilian mafia boss Massimo (Michele Morrone) and his kidnapped love interest Laura (Anna-Maria Sieklucka) earned a 29 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes; now, “This Day” has 19 percent, plus an even slimmer IMDb score (2.6/10).

Based on Blanka Lipińska’s sensual novel of the same name, “365 Days” busted Netflix records before its sequel fell limp on the streamer. Netflix released a teaser trailer for Adam Sandler’s basketball movie “Hustle,” premiering on the streamer on June 10.

Produced by LeBron James, the film follows a washed up basketball scout (Sandler) as he discovers a star athlete (Juancho Hernangómez) with a rocky past on the street ball courts of Spain. Back in the U.S., the pair struggle against all odds to prove that they have what it takes to make it in the NBA.

“Hustle” also stars Queen Latifah, Ben Foster, Kenny Smith, Ainhoa Pillet, Raul Castillo, Jordan Elizabeth Hull, Maria Botto, Heidi Gardner and Robert Duvall. Hernangómez, a Spanish-born NBA player on the Utah Jazz, makes his acting debut.

Kevin James’ new Netflix comedy “Home Team,” inspired by the life of NFL head coach Sean Payton, has drafted the rest of its cast.

Taylor Lautner and Tait Blum (“For All Mankind”) are among the actors rounding out the lineup of the new family comedy, which is loosely inspired by the longtime New Orleans Saints’ coach’s experience coaching his son’s amateur youth football team during his year-long suspension from the league. Blum will play Payton’s son Connor in the project, which is currently in production.

Adam Sandler‘s exclusive deal with Netflix began in earnest five years ago, when The Ridiculous 6 set the precedent that all of his subsequent streaming exclusives would follow. The movie was panned by critics and still holds a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it also became one of the most popular original films in the company’s history and hit the top spot on the most-watched list of every single country that the platform was available.

Subscribers have now spent a cumulative total of over 200,000 years watching Happy Madison efforts, and while the reviews have remained tepid at best, viewers can’t seem to get enough. Sandler’s production company have churned out a further seven feature films and a comedy special for the streaming site, and the overwhelming majority of them have turned out to be major successes.

Adam Sandler will portray an astronaut in Netflix’s untitled adaptation of Jaroslav Kalfar’s novel “The Spaceman of Bohemia.”

The story centers on an astronaut sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious, ancient dust, when he finds his earthly life falling to pieces. He turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together — a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.

Johan Renck, whose credits include “Chernobyl,” “Last Panthers,” and “Downloading Nancy,” is directing from a script by Colby Day.

In the weeks before the 2020 Academy Award nominations were set to be announced, Adam Sandler was a guest on The Howard Stern Show. It seems like you can’t navigate through any of Netflix’s menus or functions without stumbling across at least one Adam Sandler movie, with the actor becoming an almost ubiquitous presence on the streaming service since first signing an exclusive deal to produce a string of original films that are generally terrible, but also hugely popular with subscribers.

Netflix plan on riding the Sandler gravy train for a while yet, too, following reports that they’re keen to tie the 53 year-old down for even longer even though the two sides only renewed their agreement in January of this year, with Happy Madison Productions picking up $275 million for their near-constant contributions to the Top 10 most-watched list.

It’s probably not a stretch to say that Adam Sandler is one of the most divisive actors out there. I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, a forgotten movie starring Adam Sandler, has been in the Netflix top 10 films list for almost an entire week at this point, currently sitting in the #8 spot on the chart.

Originally released in 2007, the pic stars Sandler alongside Kevin James and Jessica Biel. Directed by Dennis Dugan and written by Barry Fanaro and Alexander Payne, it tells the story of two Brooklyn men who pretend to be a gay couple in an effort to receive domestic partner benefits.

Although the subject matter may be a little bit tasteless by today’s political standards, the film still offers a somewhat decent performance from Sandler, who’s starred in numerous comedies throughout his career that follow a very similar formula as this one does. Most of those efforts, however, were not well-received.

The critics, so far, have a unanimous verdict: “The Last Days of American Crime,” Netflix’s new sci-fi/heist mashup that features scenes of police brutality and other gratuitous violence, is one of the worst films… ever.

The movie, released on Netflix June 5, has a 0% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, which means none of the 26 critical reviews tabulated by the site were positive. Overall, the site assigned a 2.27 out of 10 rating for the film across reviewers.

“The Last Days of American Crime” joins only 42 other films (with at least 20 reviews) to receive the dubious distinction of getting a Tomatometer goose egg, including Netflix’s “The Ridiculous 6” from Adam Sandler, “Gotti” starring John Travolta, 1990’s “Problem Child,” “Staying Alive” (also starring Travolta) and “Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol.”
