Avian influenza viruses pose an increasing threat, with the potential to adapt to humans & trigger pandemics. To answer to that, along with our colleagues from European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), we have published today: a joint report assessing avian influenza virus mutations, their potential to spread to humans, and recommendations - for the animal and public health sectors. Our experts identified 34 genetic mutations that might increase the potential of avian influenza viruses to spread to humans. In the scientific opinion, they have also listed factors that can drive the viruses' adaptation to mammals. Find out the key recommendations and preparedness measures in the package #JustPublished on our website! -------- Report: bit.ly/42zoMhp Press release: bit.ly/4aBnPHk Scientific opinion: bit.ly/3EcaglJ #OneHealth #AvianFlu #AvianInfluenza #HPAI

About us
EU Agency The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) was established in 2005. It is an EU agency which aims to strengthen Europe's defences against infectious diseases. It is seated in Stockholm, Sweden. Our Mission: To identify, assess and communicate current and emerging threats to human health posed by communicable diseases. Further to this, the ECDC works to provide timely information to the European Commission, the Member States, Community agencies and international organisations active within the field of public health. In order to achieve this mission, ECDC works in partnership with national health protection bodies across Europe to strengthen and develop continent-wide disease surveillance and early warning systems. By working with experts throughout Europe, ECDC pools Europe's health knowledge to develop authoritative scientific opinions about the risks posed by current and emerging infectious diseases.
