Requesting an Extension of Your Recertification Cycle
Circumstances may necessitate a CHES® or MCHES® to request an extension. Extension status may be granted for special circumstances including, but not limited to: personal or family illness, graduate study, foreign residency.
Extension Status: A CHES®/MCHES® who has paid their renewal fee for the current certification year but have not fulfilled all CECH requirements may request a one-year extension of his/her recertification cycle.
CHES®/MCHES® may request extension status for a maximum of two years during any five-year certification cycle (approved in one-year increments). A letter of explanation for the request must be submitted each year. At the end of the current renewal year, the CHES®/MCHES® will automatically return to 'active' status, as long as current renewal fees are paid.
While in 'extension' status, a CHES®/MCHES®:
- may continue to earn CECH,
- is not permitted to hold any elected office,
- is not allowed to serve on any planning committee as a CHES®/MCHES® representative.
The best way to request an Extension is through your online portal. Log into your portal HERE.
You can also download your Extension Form and email it to admin@nchec.org.
Terminating Your Credential
Active credential-holders may elect to terminate their CHES® or MCHES® certification. This decision must be made in writing, and submitted electronically or via the postal system to the NCHEC organization. Termination of certification is a final decision and removes the individual from all association with the credential. Termination is not reversible. If an individual elects to become certified again in the future, they must re-apply and retake the current CHES® or MCHES® examination. Please email admin@nchec.org or more information.
