COSMIC-2 was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida on June 25, 2019 onboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. It initially deployed into a low Earth orbit, with each spacecraft roughly 450 miles (720 km) from Earth. The orbits are inclined by 24 degrees.

After launch, the spacecraft were lowered one-by-one into orbits about 340 miles (550 km) from Earth. The last of the six spacecraft reached the 340 mile orbit in February 2021. All of the spacecraft will remain in these orbits through the rest of COSMIC-2’s mission.
