Welcome and Director’s Message
Training and supporting the next generation of basic and clinical scientists is crucial to advancing the NIAMS research mission into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases. As almost every household in America is affected by these diseases, we seek to promote the development of a highly trained workforce that reflects both the NIAMS core values and the makeup of the American public. NIAMS strives to foster the professional and scientific skills of our future scientific workforce through the laboratories of extramural NIAMS-funded investigators and within the NIAMS intramural research program. We believe that the development of these future scientific leaders is vital to our continued success in advancing research toward preventing and treating arthritis, musculoskeletal, and skin diseases.
