Predictive Services

Predictive Services was developed to provide decision support to fire management, offering detailed information on anticipated significant fire activity and potential resource needs. Predictive Services consists of three functional areas: fire weather, fire danger/fuels, and fire intelligence. Predictive Services staff are located at the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC) and the Geographic Area Coordination Centers (GACCs) across the country.

Intelligence: Provides the firefighting and dispatch community with accurate information pertaining to the current wildland fire situation, resource commitment and availability, preparedness levels, and satellite imagery.

Weather: Meteorologists analyze a variety of weather products and models to deliver briefings and outlooks for current and forecasted conditions. In some cases, they provide spot weather and smoke forecasts.

Fuels & Fire Danger: Wildland Fire Analysts provide briefings on current and forecasted fire danger, fire behavior, and significant fire activity.
