Learning College

Learning College

Phoenix College is a learning-centered organization that is passionate about its students! PC is a premier institution of higher education. Our vision, mission, and values reflect the outstanding commitment to education embodied by our faculty and staff.

At PC, we are committed to ensuring that the opportunities available to our students continue to grow. With that in mind, we have embraced the Learning College concept, a nationally-known strategy for increasing student success, retention, and persistence. According to Dr. Terry O'Banion, known as the father of the concept, the Learning College is "an institution designed to help students make passionate connections to learning."

Four key learning principles drive this goal:

  • Evaluation
  • Communication
  • Collaboration
  • Responsibility

The Learning College concept engages students as full partners in the learning process. Students are assisted in forming and participating in collaborative learning activities, while the roles of learning facilitators are defined by the needs of the learners. Through assessment, improved and expanded learning defines the measure of success.

The Learning College may be a relatively new concept, but it is built on long-established values in the community college, values that place a premium on quality teaching for the purpose of helping to create substantive change in the individual learner.

The learning environment here at PC has been relevant, competitive, accessible, and accountable for over nine decades because of our commitment to quality and excellence in teaching, learning and student success.
