On May 19th this year, the Reserve Bank of India made a surprise announcement by announcing the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes from circulation. Six years after the country witnessed the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, this move was named ‘mini-demonetization’ or demonetization 2.0 by many people, even though Rs 2000 notes were withdrawn from circulation but not demonetized.

India’s annual rate of inflation, based on monthly wholesale price index (WPI), declined further to 12.41 per cent (provisional) in August 2022, over August 2021. After increasing to a record 15.88 per cent in May, WPI inflation eased to 13.93 per cent in July. The month-on-month change in WPI index for August 2022 stood at -0.46 per cent.
