जब मैं छोटी और भोली थी,
कोई दे कर मुझको पीर गया,
मुझे मार गया वो गोली सी;
मेरे नाज़ुक दिल को चीर गया.
बदनसीब प्यार में हैं वो देखो,
जिन्हें बस बद्दुआ ही मिलती है.
तोडा मैंने किसी का दिल जैसे;
मुझको अब ज़िन्दगी ये छलती है.

Broke my brittle heart in two;
And that is very bad.
Love is for unlucky folk,
Love is but a curse.
Once there was a heart I broke;
And that, I think, is worse.
