What Is Needed For Enlightenment Poem by Mohammad Younus

What Is Needed For Enlightenment

What is needed for enlightenment
is for the inner self to awaken,
to become eyes, ears, tongue,
nose, and skin—
a transformation so profound,
it stirs the depths of being,
unveiling the infinite within the finite.

When Basira (vision) , Sama (hearing) , Zawq (taste) ,
Lams (touch) , and Sham (smell) arise within,
the dormant senses of the soul,
they herald the dawn of enlightenment.
These are not merely senses—
they are the conduits of divine perception,
opening pathways to the truths
veiled from ordinary sight.

What is required is not the blood
that merely sustains the body,
but the life of the spirit—
adorned with these five sacred faculties.
In their awakening lies the union
between the seen and the unseen,
the physical and the eternal.

The eye of the heart pierces beyond forms,
seeing what the physical eyes cannot—
a vision illuminated by divine light,
where the ordinary becomes sacred.
The ear of the heart listens deeply,
catching the voice of the Beloved,
resonating in the winds, the waters,
and the silence of all things.

The tongue of the heart tastes
the sweetness of devotion—
a nectar untainted by worldly flavors,
a love that endures beyond words.
The feel of the heart absorbs
the warmth of divine proximity,
as if wrapped in the Eternal Embrace.
And the nose of the heart discerns
the fragrance of the Beloved,
a scent that stills the restless soul,
filling it with peace immeasurable.

This alignment of outer and inner,
of the senses physical and spiritual,
reveals a new way of being—
a way of seeing, hearing, and feeling
the universe as it truly is:
a tapestry woven with divine threads.

Let my inner life flourish,
unfolding like a hidden rose,
petal by petal,
until its fragrance mingles
with the essence of the divine.
Let this flowering be my surrender,
my offering to the Eternal.

Then, as a mystic, I shall live—
rooted in the unity of all things,
where each sacred sense
becomes a bridge to the Infinite.
Every glance, every whisper,
every touch, every breath,
a hymn to the Beloved's presence.

In this awakening, I dissolve,
and yet I discover wholeness—
a mirror reflecting the divine light.
Here, every moment is holy,
every step a pilgrimage closer
to the Beloved's embrace,
until at last, no separation remains,
and all is One, One in all dawns.
