Track: For the purposes of this project, we will follow the certification track. 1. Standards Chosen:
From the Standards of the American Association of School Librarians 4.1.1 Read, view, and listen for pleasure and personal growth. 4.1.2 Read widely and fluently to make connections with self, the world, and previous reading. 4.1.5: Connect ideas to own interests and previous knowledge and experience. 2. Target Audience: The target audience for this video will be male and female students from grades 3-6 comprised of ages 8-12. The cultural background for the project would have no boundaries as it would appeal to all cultures in this country. Specific entry skills for our target audience would be an elementary aged student with an intermediate reading level. Specific learning style motivations of the target audience for this project would be that of the perceptual arousal that falls under the Attention Factor. In the Relevance Factor, strategies of familiarity will be used. Success opportunities will be established to address the Confidence Factor. Satisfaction factors will also be addressed by using positive consequences. The purpose of our video is to motivate upper elementary school students to enjoy reading, while adding a sense of competition into the mix. 3. Objectives for the Presentation: 1. After viewing the video that promotes reading and the schools reading programs, students in grades 3-5 will recognize that reading can be fun, and will select books for pleasure reading. 2. Students will be able to read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems in the grades 6-8 text complexity band proficiently. 2. Students will be able to read and comprehend literary non-fiction in grades 6-8 text complexity band proficiently. *# 2-3 are taken from the Georgia Standards for ELA
