The engine department holds overall responsibility for the daily operations and maintenance of the engineering, electrical and mechanical divisions of the vessel. Reports to the Staff Chief Engineer. II Purpose of the Position The Facility Manager position is responsible for all aspects of the hotel department related equipment. The position comes with its own responsibilities as listed below to ensure all machinery related to his responsibilities operate efficient and guest health, safety and experienced is maintained. Responsible for all technical facilities in the Guests staterooms including immediate repairs and preventative maintenance. Responsible for overseeing all shipboard interior maintenance including tile setting, upholstery maintenance, carpeting, wood flooring, glass windows, signage.
Ensures spare parts are ordered in a timely fashion to ensure continuation of preventive and breakdown maintenance. Must inspect all machinery for the areas of responsibility and equipment and report any deficiencies to the Staff Chief Engineer. Observe and adhere to all company policies and marine regulations Make timely entries in the logbooks and planned maintenance system as required. Is active involved in onboard meetings as required, including meetings with own staff.

Should personally supervise any work of an unusually hazardous nature at any time. Is responsible to the Staff Chief Engineer for protecting ship's property against loss or damage and against irregular or wasteful practices on the part of any member of the Engine Department. Is responsible for the appraisal and the development of the engine officer's and rating skills, abilities, and attitudes under his/her supervision. Consults daily with the Staff Chief Engineer concerning policies for the maintenance and upkeep of his/her department.
Gives effective leadership and coaching to assigned personnel
Personally supervise any unusually hazardous work being performed. Ensure those being supervised are performing their duties in accordance with all safety protocols and using proper safety equipment. Is responsible for the maintenance, administration, supervision, and safe operation of assigned systems. Reviews and stays up to date with the VSP regulations and Canadian Public Health and ensures that the areas of his responsibility adhere to these regulations. Ensure AMOS-W system is used in a timely, consistent and efficient manner.
Other duties as assigned by Staff Chief Engineer.
IV Supervision received Medium supervision Work is reviewed at several steps along the way for accuracy by his direct supervisors, which include Staff Chief Engineer.
V Problem solving and decision making Safety comes always first and the Facility Manager makes effective decisions during his work and reports all his finding to his direct supervisor. The position requires high engineering problem solving skills, management skills and is able to prioritize. VI Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The Facility Manager has received the following knowledge, skills and training: License and/or schooling Engineering Officer of the Watch issued by vessels flag state or recognized by the vessels flag state. College level education in Mechanical Engineering Experience Completed cadetship + 3 years experience as an engineer, preferable on deep sea trade vessels Proven experience in at least 70% of the topics described in section III Proven shoreside experience for at least 4 years after completion of education in a matching position Preferred promoted from the Assistant FM position Physical demands For the safety of yourself and others on board certain physical abilities are expected to be maintained. Must be able to bend, climb, perform repetitive motion, and repetitively heavy lift.
