Brief about the Agriculture of Nepal (1)


Agriculture contributes 34.1 % to GDP 80% people depend on agriculture (4.2 million)

It provides net employment to 66 % people


Strong growth in some high-value commodities. (spices, vegetable, poultry, dairy) Overall low productivity of agriculture sector

Brief about the Agriculture of Nepal....


Low investment in agriculture (MoAC) over the past year Foreign Aid in Agriculture over the past years almost stagnant (under MoAC) Net importer of agricultural commodities

The principal challenge is to enhance competitiveness of agricultural sector

Genesis of ADS
Agriculture Perspective Plan (APP) 1995 to 2015, National Agriculture Policy (2004) and periodic plans are the major policy documents for agriculture development in Nepal New issues like climate change, food security, outmigration of youth, and decentralization, inclusions and governance emerged This situation demands new effort to address these challenges Felt need of Agriculture Development Strategy (ADS)
