    Chapter 1: Classification

    Animals are living things belonging to the animal kingdom. They can be vertebrates (with a
    backbone) or invertebrates (without a backbone). Animals are classified according to their kingdom,
    phylum, class, order, family, genus and species. Animals have many different characteristics and
    behaviours. All animals have a life cycle. The environment that an animal lives in is called a habitat.
    Malaysia is well-known for its unique animals.

    As a Biology student, you should be able to identify and classify animals based on their
    characteristics. Learn about Malaysia's unique wildlife and prepare a portfolio of ten animals of your
    choice. The following items should be in your portfolio:

    - What is the scientific name of the animals?


    - How they are classified?
    - What is their habitat?
    - What are some of their different characteristics?
    - What are their behaviours?

    Time to prepare
    - 2 weeks (2/10/2013 – 16/10/2013)
