    Robotics Personal

    Reflection
    This is a wrap up of your robotics experience. Please answer the
    below questions with a minimum of three full paragraphs each.
    You must adhere to professional writing guidelines and rules, use
    complete sentences and use professional grammar and spelling.
    There is no requirement of research, cites or APA style. This is
    YOUR personal reflection. Each question is worth 5pts for a total
    of 25pts.
    NOTE: You will need the reporters notes from your team to make
    an adequate assessment about your own reflection. Keep this. It
    will be beneficial to you in our website assignment.
    1. Discuss your experiences with your team and your teams
    attitude during the robotics build.
    Our team had a great time during the build process.
    We chose to name our team the Elegant Educators and
    easily fell into the roles that we chose. Our robot was fun
    and had a fun, Lego type feel to it. Because of the
    simplicity of our build, Katie took on the build process while
    Sydney and I took pictures, notes, and handed her the
    pieces she needed at times. We were able to put our robot
    together within one class period.
    Everyone was enthused throughout the time we
    worked on our robot. It was a fun experience and
    something that each of us was able to take something
    from. Sydney was able to take pictures of the build process

    on her cell phone which made it easy for us to share with


    one another. I was able to take notes on my cell phone
    and once it died, I began taking notes on paper, which I
    was also able to share via email and text message.
    Our group did have a few issues with the build, as
    some of the pieces were missing. We were able to find the
    pieces in another box in order to finish putting our robot
    together. Though we did run into a few minor issues, our
    group stayed positive and continued to have a great time.
    Everyone in our group seemed to enjoy the process.
    2. Discuss your personal disposition and expectations of
    robotics.
    In the beginning, I was very unsure about robotics. I
    was not enthused by the idea. In fact, I was quite afraid to
    work on a robot. Once the robots were presented to us in
    class, I realized it would be much less difficult than I had
    once assumed.
    At the beginning, I would say that my disposition of
    robotics was negative. I had a bad idea of what I might be
    getting myself into, a headache, which I felt extremely
    unprepared for. Once we began discussing robotics and I
    realized that it is a fun way to engage students in learning,
    collaboratively, and a great way to build relationships with
    others and teams, my mind completely changed.
    By the end of the build and the presentation, I would
    say that my disposition of robotics shifted from negative to
    positive. Once we finished our robot and the presentation, I
    realized the true meaning behind robotics. It is so much
    more than piecing together materials to make a robot. Its
    about learning how to work with others, communicate,

    and have fun. It truly believe in robotics now that I have


    experienced it myself.
    3. Discuss areas of critical thinking, problem solving,
    communication and collaboration that you may or may
    not have experienced during the robot build.
    During the robot build, our group did not experience
    much critical thinking because of the simplicity of the build
    for our adult minds. Our group did experience problem
    solving, communication, and collaboration. Throughout the
    process, our group worked together, made decisions, and
    discussed our plans and decisions with one another. The
    entire robot build went fairly smooth.
    Our group experienced several instances of problem
    solving. Several times we had missing pieces and together
    we worked to find them. Once we realized we were
    missing the pieces, we decided to ask for another robot. In
    addition to this, we also had a bit of trouble with one piece
    of the robot. It took two of us to realize that we were
    putting it on upside down but we did figure it out.
    In addition to problem solving, our group also
    experienced communication and collaboration which go
    hand in hand. In order to get through the process, we
    maintained a constant conversation about what we were
    doing and how we would achieve the end result. We
    worked together to achieve the results we wanted and
    worked as a team to make decisions.
    4. Discuss HOW, specifically, you could use robotics in your
    specialized area:

    I am an Early Childhood Education major. Robotics


    can be used in an ECED classroom in many different ways.
    For younger children, robot materials could be
    incorporated in many different centers. It is not as likely that
    the younger children would be able to put a robot
    together, they can however manipulate the materials and
    create their own representations of robots through many
    different materials.
    In order to incorporate robotics in an ECED classroom,
    I would provide my students with materials to manipulate in
    each of the different centers. For example, students would
    have the opportunity to draw/dwrite about robots in the
    writing center, read about robots in the library, paint with
    robot materials in the art center, count and sort robot parts
    in the math center, manipulate robot pieces in the sensory
    center or science center, and even build their own
    representations of robots in the block center.
    Robots can be incorporated into the classroom for
    any different age group. It is however important to find
    activities which are age appropriate. By providing the
    students with the opportunity to engage in robotics,
    students are being provided with the opportunity to work
    collaboratively with their peers, engage in conversations,
    think critically, and even problem solve. At any age, these
    are important skills and robotics provides many
    opportunities for these skills and more.
