Setting up a working Dial-Up

Connection is usually easy, if on the condition that
the concerned client knows or is informed of the
Dial-Up Connection services by the “Service
Provider” before She/he proceeds to set up his/her
Dial-Up Connection. Otherwise, without the above
prerequisites, setting up a Dial-Up Connection can
become a hell of a task.
The abovementioned Services that the Service
Provider should provide for his/her client include:
1) Free of Charge – Internet Settings for Mobile
and PC.
2) Free of Charge – Manual Settings for Mobile and
PC, if Via Network Installation fails.
3) Tariff Plans for Internet Usage.
4) Most important of all; guaranteed service.

Quite some years before, Indian mobile network

users purchased SIM (Subscriber Identification
Module) mostly for talking purposes, but now a day
Indian subscribers are going for two way usages i.e.
for voice and Internet communication. Why not also,

2
since Dial-Up connections are quite cheap and
provide sufficient utility for average Home users.
Plus you usually don’t need to buy any extra
devices. What you need is your GPRS (General
Packet Radio Service) enabled Mobile phone with a
Data Cable or a Blue Tooth connectivity option and
a PC/Laptop, That’s all.
This Document provides Technical Assistance/
Manual Help; for those mobile users who want to
use Dial-Up Internet Services provided by their
service providers but are unable to do so due to
their Mobile Device Incompatibility issues, problems
installing Internet settings in their Phone/PC etc.

LET’S GET STARTED

Before we get started, I advise you to install your
mobile phones “Software CD” that is provided to you
when you purchase the phone. For Nokia mobiles the
software is known as “Nokia PC Suite”, for Motorola
mobiles, “Motorola Phone Tools” for Samsung mobiles,
“Samsung PC Studio” etc. These software CD’s are
usually supplied inside the box in which your phone
came, but if it is not supplied to you, then ask the
retailer for that CD or download it, mostly free from
www.softpedia.com . Do note that almost all the mobile
phone companies provide Software CD’s for each of
their respective phone models.
[Don’t worry if you are unable get the software CD for
your phone, you could create an internet connection
directly without the CD, but this I shall explain later]
3
But it would be very easy for you, setting up your
internet connection through the software CD. So try to
acquire it first.
After installing the Software CD, run the application and
look for network setup wizard or an ICON that is named
as CONNTECTION WIZARD, INTERNET CONNECTION,
NETWORK CONNECTION, Dial-Up Connection or DATA
CONNECION etc. Next, follow the instructions click
finish then restart your PC, then connect to the internet
by dialing the connection.
This is the easy way to setup your Dial-Up Connection
via the use of your phone’s software installed in your
PC. Easy isn’t it..! But sometimes when you are in the
process of creating a Dial-Up Connection, you may be
asked by your PC to input certain Information that may
include DNS (Domain Name Server), GPRS APN (Access
Point), PORT Number and Dialing Number. What then.
This is where this document comes to the rescue. The
content of the document is divided into three parts;
First Part: Deals with setting up dial-up connection
using clients phones Software CD and the Second Part:
deals with setting up dial-up connection without using
clients phones Software CD, i.e. in case the client has
failed to acquire the Software CD. The Third part: with
Procedures after creating dial-up internet connection.

4
Part One
After installing the phones software CD, start the
installed software by double clicking on the icon which
is usually on the desktop. Now go to “Create internet
connection or similar box and follow the instructions. If
in case you are prompted to enter certain information
depending on the software CD and the Service Provider
for your SIM, here are those Information which is
Service Provider Specific.
i) User Name: You’re Name (A FAKE NAME
recommended for security reasons).

ii) Password: Give a pass word (Recommended).

Further it is always advisable to input your User Name
and a strong Pass Word for the Dial-Up Internet
connection.
