Parents
The success of each student depends on the active involvement of
each parent. It is important for us to maintain a strong level of communication and collaboration with our parents. It is customary for the
Parent Teachers Association to be highly involved in funding raising
events and cultural activities. The PTA meets once a month.
Alumni
Many of our students have attended excellent
public and preparatory high schools. We encourage graduates to become members of The Alumni Association for St. Josephs Parish Day School
(TAA). Current members of The Alumni Association help with mentoring, fundraising and preserving the history of the school.
Camp DeWolfe
Located in Long Islands Wading River, Camp
DeWolfe is a retreat center sponsored by the
Diocese of Long Island. SJPDS has access to
the center for its retreat programs, Summer and
Winter Camp, and Community Service.
School Prayer
O, God, give us clean hands, clean words and clean thoughts.
Help us to stand for the hard right against the easy wrong. Save
us from habits that harm. Teach us to work as hard, and to
play as fair in thy sight alone, as if all the world saw. Forgive
us when we are unkind and help us to forgive those who are
unkind to us. Keep us ready to help others at some cost to
ourselves. Send us chances to do some good every day; and so
to grow more like Christ. Amen.
Brief History
St. Josephs Parish
St. Josephs Parish Day School (SJPDS), started in 1950 as a

nursery school named for its benefactor, Miss Louisa M. Webster.
The Webster Day School opened with a few students, but outgrew
its facility by 1955. The Headmaster, The Rev. Harold Lemoine
raised funds for an annex. That annex was opened and the school
renamed in 1955 under The Rev. William Penny. In 1956, the first
class of St. Josephs-Webster Day School graduated.
Renamed St. Josephs Parish Day
School in the mid 1960s, the school developed a reputation as a feeder school
for many college preparatory schools
because of its academic excellence and
enriched curricula that includes Spanish, French, Integrated Mathematics,
History, Science, Art, and Music.

Historically, as an approach to developing the whole child, Saint

Josephs competed in track and field, attended operas, conducted
Science Fairs, and sponsored history-based trips under The Rev.
Paul Bournes leadership. Due to a growing student population in
the 1990s, The Rev. Lloyd Anthony oversaw the building of a second floor in 2000.
As we celebrate 65 years of fostering excellence guided by our new
Head of School, St. Josephs is eager to provide student-centric
teaching; introduce new programs; and continue the tradition of
assisting students to become positive contributors and leaders of
our world.
Summer Enrichment Program

The program is designed to provide students with the academic
essentials that will enable them to tackle the new school year with
confidence. Preparation for the independent schools exams
(ISEE/SSAT) is available. The day concludes with extracurricular
activities, such as music, chess or soccer.

St. Josephs Episcopal Church was
involved in educating children on
Sundays, but in 1950, the Church
embraced Gods call to establish a
day school. St. Josephs Parish Day
School (SJPDS) was founded with

child by using rigorous academic programs, physical education, religious studies and extra-curricular activities.
We, believe that our children deserve the time, patience,
and the best of our talents to help them think holistically,
grow physically strong, reach their full potential and transition successfully into high school. To this end, teachers
focus on nurturing the whole child by providing individualized attention and developing curricula to fit the needs of
children so they may flourish.
To further fulfill our purpose, SJPDS recently extended its
school day; introduced all-day Pre-Kindergarten; included
after-school and summer tutoring; and enlarged the Performing and Visual Arts programs. We continue to maintain our small class size policy, offer Orchestra, High
School Regents examinations and Physical Education.
The School is a member of the National Association of
Episcopal Schools. With generous support from The Rt.
Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Bishop of the Episcopal
Diocese of Long Island, St. Josephs continues to grow
as we welcome students of all creeds, faiths, races nationalities and ethnicities.

Curriculum
Located in a quiet enclave away from the busy avenues of

Queens Village, St. Josephs Parish Day School (SJPDS) is a
co-educational institution that serves children from PreKindergarten to 8th grade; and is open to students of all
creeds, faiths, nationalities, races and ethnicities.
Mission Statement
Following the example of our patron Saint,
Joseph, we aspire to foster academic integrity
and excellence, love for learning, good character, pure service, responsibility, leadership,
and respect for God, others and self.
Academic Year /School Day

Our calendar year is compatible with the New York City school
calendar. There are some minor differences, especially
around Holy Week/Easter/Christmas because we try to observe the Christian Holy Days.
School Day starts with
Breakfast: 7:15 A.M. to 7:50 A.M.
Morning Devotions: 8:00 A.M. to 8:30 A.M.
Classes: 8:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
After School Program: 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Extra-Curricular Activities: 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Small Classes
By maintaining small classroom sizes, we are able to know

every student, encourage collaboration, and foster analytical
thinking through discussion and debate.
Trips and Assemblies

Several field trips and assemblies are planned each year.
These trips serve specific content areas, but are also examples of the cross-curricula mission of the School. Assemblies
are conducted by in-house teachers, students or outside
guests. Our most recent assemblies included: Career Day,
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Women in History Day and China Day.
Fostering Academic Excellence in all students of any race, color, creed, religion, ethnic and/
or national origin; and respecting the dignity of all in a Christian Environment for 65 years.

Our collaborative curriculum and programs are engineered to teach students

to work hard, play fair and help others.
The curriculum for each grade is competitive and in compliance with New York
State Standards and Guidelines. All New
York State Exams are given annually. St.
Josephs offers creative programs, computer integration, inquiry-based lessons,
and individualized assistance.

Children attend Chapel Service in our beautiful church adjacent to the school. While our worship style is Episcopal
(Anglican), we encourage students to share their religious

Community Service
Keep us ready to help others at

some cost to ourselves, is the motivation for the Schools Service Program that includes Clean-up Day,
and collecting non-perishables for
the needy at Thanksgiving.
