Worked in fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade IB accelerated courses. Independently facilitated
after school study program four days a week. Independently planned and taught the seventh
grade class full time. Designed and implemented seventh grade curriculum. Co-planned and cotaught other classes according to MSUs internship schedule. Gained progressively more
responsibility in all classes leading to full course planning and teaching sixth, seventh, and eighth
grade from February to May.
PRE-INTERNSHIP FIELD EXPERIENCE
Spring 2011: Field placement at East Lansing High School 5 hours total
Worked in high school English 3 and British Literature classes. Observed lectures and class
activities, provided one-on-one support for struggling students, graded papers and witnessed
lesson planning and curriculum development strategies.
Fall 2012: Field placement at Gardner Middle School 2 hours per week
Worked at Gardner Middle School through the Refugee Development Centers after school
tutoring program. Worked with students one-on-one and in small groups, assisted in school work,
discussed successful study strategies with students, assisted in English development, observed
classroom management techniques.
Spring 2014: Field placement at MacDonald Middle School 2 hours per week
Worked in seventh-grade English class. Observed lessons and class activities, provided one-onone support for struggling students, provided classroom management support for mentor teacher
by working with students who had behavioral issues, proctored standardized tests, taught selected
lessons.
Fall 2014: Field placement at Michigan State University 4 hours per week
Worked in Pre-College Writing class at Michigan State University. The class was comprised of

mostly international students and other students struggling with college-level writing. Assisted in
lessons and class activities, worked one-on-one with struggling students, taught several fulllength classes, developed lesson plans, activities, and projects with mentor teacher.
Spring 2015: Field placement at Webberville High School 4 hours per week.
Worked in ninth-grade English class. Conducted one-on-one tutoring sessions four times weekly.
Observed lessons and class activities, provided on-on-one support for struggling students,
provided classroom management support for mentor teacher, planned and taught several fulllength classes.

Responsibilities: Consulted with students on writing, facilitated an understanding of the writing
process, provided tutoring for students on writing skills and conventions, ran various Writing
Center workshops, member of Web Content Committee, participated in designing the Navigating
the Masters Degree workshop series, Social Media coordinator for summer of 2014.

Position: Writing Studio Mentor
Responsibilities: Facilitated weekly writing students for tier one writing class in MSUs Lymon
Briggs College. Planned and conducted short lessons, facilitated peer-writing workshops,
collaborated with course instructors to support and supplement writing curriculum. Upon
program completion, conducted a data analysis to determine effectiveness of program and
compile suggestions for program going forward.
May 2014 August 2013: Refugee Development Center Lansing, MI
Position: Intern
Responsibilities: Assisted lead teacher in adult ESL classes and taught classes in absence of lead
teacher, taught small groups of middle and high school students during student summer camps,
facilitated and assisted during womens sewing circle and support group, fostered student growth
at all levels, worked with students from a diverse background and age range.

CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS
The Ownership of Narrative: Working with Refugees in the Writing Center
October 2013
Presented at Michigan Writing Center Association Creative Collaborations.
Michigan has a large refugee population, with between 10,000 to 13,000 residing in MidMichigan alone. Seeking education, many refugees pursue writing center assistance. This
presentation explores some unique aspects of working with members of refugee populations,
while encouraging mindfulness of past trauma, native cultures, and student agency.
CURRICULUM DESIGN EXPERIENCE
Navigating the Masters Degree Workshop
May 2014 August 2014
Was a member of the committee working to develop a workshop intended for students currently
pursuing or considering pursuing a Masters degree. Worked with four other committee members
to develop the curriculum for the series, predict and troubleshoot difficulties, pilot, and present
workshop series.
Private Curriculum for Tutoring Through Capital Area Literacy Coalition
June 2012 July 2014
Developed personalized curriculum for a specific student spanning two years. This curriculum
was based on the students individual needs and included supplemental literacy instruction, help
with school work, supplemental writing instruction, and ACT prep.
