We celebrate today the Feast of the BODY and

BLOOD of CHRIST, also known as CORPUS CHRISTI
Melchizedek, the Priest King of Salem helped
Abraham to celebrate the first Thanksgiving
sacrifice of Abraham. He used Bread and Wine to
thank God. Abraham gave a tenth of all that he had
to the Priest. Here we have the custom of tithing,
which literally means one-tenth of anything.
Saint Paul is the first to describe to the Believers
how the Eucharist was celebrated. His letter to the
Corinthians was written much before the Gospels
and even the other letters of Paul to the various
Churches that came to believe in Christ.
In the Gospel we are told that Jesus had
compassion on the thousands who followed Him.
He multiplied two Fish and five loaves of Bread
and fed about five thousand followers. We have
this image at the bottom of our Tabernacle.
In this Year of Mercy, we must revisit our belief
about the Eucharist, which also includes
attendance at Mass and our Offering, that we make
each week-end in giving thanks to God for His
many blessings upon us.

St. Justin

Feast Day June 1

"Philosophy is the knowledge of that which exists,
and a clear understanding of the truth; and
happiness is the reward of such knowledge and
understanding" (Justin, Dialogue with Trypho, 3).
Justin never ended his quest for religious truth
even when he converted to Christianity after years
of studying various pagan philosophies.
As a young man, he was principally attracted to the
school of Plato. However, he found that the
Christian religion answered the great questions
about life and existence better than the
philosophers. Upon his conversion he continued to
wear the philosopher's mantle, and became the
first Christian philosopher. He combined the
Christian religion with the best elements in Greek
philosophy. In his view, philosophy was a
pedagogue of Christ, an educator that was to lead
one to Christ. Justin is known as an apologist, one
who defends in writing the Christian religion
against the attacks and misunderstandings of the
pagans. Two of his so-called apologies have come
down to us; they are addressed to the Roman
emperor and to the Senate.

"Love is like five

loaves and two fish,
always too little until you start giving it
away." This is the
message inscribed at a
shrine near the northern end
of the Sea of Galilee, built
where Jesus multiplied a
small amount of food to provide for the needs of everyone in the large crowd who
had come to see him.
In front of the altar is a Byzantine mosaic of the loaves
and fish, dating about 480
A.D. It's next to the rock upon which Jesus blessed the
food. However, in the mosaic
you can see only four loaves,
not five. Why?
The fifth loaf is the bread of
the Eucharist in which Jesus
comes to us in Holy Communion at every Mass.

The Eucharist is more than

the True Presence of Jesus.
It's more than a communion
with the Body of Christ that's
become the whole Church
Saturday June 4
Immaculate Heart
community. It's a miracle of
2 Timothy 4:1-8
multiplication. Whatever we
Ps 71:8-9,14-17,22
lack from God, it comes to us
Luke 2:41-51
in Jesus through the Holy
Spirit, and when we participate in the Eucharistic celebration of Mass, we can
(and should!) ask Jesus to multiply our insufficiencies
into an abundance.
We can trust that he will give us all that we need, at
the perfect time in whatever way we're able to receive
it, albeit often through a growth process.

Do you have
enough love in
your life? Most of
us would say no,
because there is
no one except
God who is
capable of giving
us all the love that we need: No one,
regardless of how close to us they
are, regardless of how loyal and
trustworthy, regardless of how close
to Christ they are.
The Eucharist is our earthly, direct
connection to all the perfect love of
God. The reason we don't feel the
fullness of that love is because we
don't fully understand how to unite
ourselves to the Eucharist. To receive the Eucharist fully, we have to
be the Eucharist fully. The Eucharist
is love given in sacrifice for the sake
of others. If you're not receiving
enough love, give more love be
the love you want to receive. Be Eucharist for others.

Reflect & Discuss:

1. Is God's love sufficiently filling in
the gaps where others don't love
you enough? Ask the Holy Spirit
to show you how to give more
love instead of focusing on getting more, then ask Jesus to
multiply the love that you give so
that it's more than enough for
your needs as well as the needs
of others.
2. Describe an experience of love
being multiplied.
3. How did that experience prove:
"Love is like five loaves and two
fish, always too little until you
start giving it away"?
