    Act at many levels in the CNS, producing generalized Common side effects
    depression. Effects may be mediated by GABA, an lethargy, drowsiness, daytime sedation, dizziness, confustion, light-headedness,
    inhibitory neurotransmitter. headache, anxiety, irritability, chest pain, pulse changes, nausea, vomiting,
    diarrhea, heartburn, abdominal pain, constipation, anorexia

    Interactions with other patient drugs, OTC, or herbal Lab value alterations caused by medicine
    medicines (ask patient specifically)
    alcohol; antidepressants; antihistamines; opioid analgesics;
    sedative/hypnotics; levodopa; rifampin; smoking; probenecid
    theophylline. Be sure to teach the patient the following about this medication
    Avoid driving, avoid alcohol ingestion, effects may take 2 nights for benefits to
    be noticed, try other measures to improve sleep (reading, exercise several hours
    before bedtime, warm bath, warm milk, TV, self-hypnosis, deep breathing),
    hangover, memory impairment are common in elderly
