THREE IN A ROW: The Padres enter todays action at 6-7 having won each of the last three games, including two yesterday in the second split squad this Springover the Spring slate, the Friars play a total of 34 games in Arizona before heading home for a workout on 4/2 followed by two games against the Royals (4/3 at Petco Park and 4/4 in Lake Elsinore)...have four remaining split squad games this Spring (March 18, 24, 27, 31). TODAYS STARTER: RHP Dustin Moseley makes his third start of the Spring todaythe right-hander worked 2.0 innings on 3/5 against the Mariners, allowing two runs on two hits, and followed up in his second start with 3.0 scoreless innings on 3/10 against the Indians at Goodyear, allowing one hit while striking out three in that game. WIN AT SCOTTSDALE: Against the Dbacks at Scottsdale yesterday the Padres tossed their second shutout of the Spring, beating Arizona by a score of 8-0RHP Joe Wieland made his first Spring start and worked 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out fourChase Headley and Carlos Quentin broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with back-to-back homers, their first home runs this SpringQuentin finished the game 2-for-3. WIN AT GOODYEAR: Over in Goodyear against the Reds yesterday, the Padres won by a score of 9-4LHP Clayton Richard made his second Spring start, working 3.0 innings and allowing two runs on three hits while striking out threeRHP Casey Kelly followed up with 3.0 scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out four to earn the winoffensively the squad tallied 16 hits total, including home runs by Andy Parrino and Matt ClarkJames Darnell finished with three hits, while Cameron Maybin, Jesus Guzman, Kyle Blanks and Rymer Liriano each collected two. ROSTER MOVES: The Padres today optioned six players and reassigned two to minor league campamong the six optioned were LHPs Jose De Paula (San Antonio) and Juan Oramas (San Antonio), RHP Erik Hamren (San Antonio), OFs Rymer Liriano (Lake Elsinore) and Blake Tekotte (Tucson) and INF Edinson Rincon (San Antonio)reassigned to minor league camp was LHP Robbie Erlin and C Jason Hagerty. MINOR ACTION: Minor league games for the Padres begin today. LOS SPRING: So far this Spring, Carlos Quentin has hit .533 (8-for15) with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in six games played. WILLING AND ABLE: Will Venable so far this Spring is hitting .364 (8-for-22) with four doubles in eight games playedhis four doubles are tied for third-most among all National League players this Spring, and second most on the Padres behind Edinson Rincons five doubles. ROSTER TALK: With todays moves, the Padres currently have 48 players in Big League camp, including 34 players on the 40-man roster and 14 non-roster inviteesthe squad currently features 23 pitchers (five southpaws), four catchers, 13 infielders and eight outfielders...entering camp, the club had 16 players on the 40-man roster who were not at the beginning of 2011 Spring. THE FUTURE: Five of the Padres Top 10 prospects, according to Baseball America, are currently in Big League camp...list includes INF Yonder Alonso (1), C Yasmani Grandal (2), RHP Casey Kelly (4), INF Jedd Gyorko (7) and RHP Joe Wieland (8)...Baseball Americas ranking of the Top 100 prospects also included Alonso (33), Grandal (53), Kelly (76) and Gyorko (98)in total, the club had six players featured in the top 100 which were tied for the most among all clubs (also, Athletics, Cardinals and Rangers). ROOKIE ROUND-UP: 16 of the 48 players currently in camp will qualify as rookies in the 2012 season, with six of those 16 on the 40-man roster...the six consist of Brad Brach, Nick Vincent, Yasmani Grandal, James Darnell, Andy Parrino and Jeudy Valdez. PADRES ON THE RADIO: Each day there is a Padres game, you will be able to hear it broadcast in English on 1090 AM or 1700... one game will be broadcast on days there are split squad games... the action will be brought to you by Ted Leitner, Jerry Coleman, Andy Masur and newcomer Bob Scanlan...in addition, all Saturday and Sunday games will be broadcast in Spanish on AM 860, with Eduardo Ortega and Juan Avila calling the action.
