CACTUS LEAGUE ACTION: The Padres enter todays game at 3-7...over the Spring slate, the Friars play a total of 34 games in Arizona before heading home for a workout on 4/2 followed by two games against the Royals (4/3 at Petco Park and 4/4 in Lake Elsinore)...the clubs Cactus League schedule includes five remaining split-squad games (March 14, 18, 24, 27, 31). LAST TIME OUT: The Padres fell to the Rockies yesterday at Scottsdale by a score of 11-2leading the offensive charge for San Diego was Cameron Maybin who connected for his first of the Spring on a leadoff homer to start the game before also doubling and scoring another runLHP Cory Luebke made the start and worked 3.0 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out twoRHP Jeff Suppan also worked 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk. TODAYS STARTER: RHP Edinson Volquez make his second Spring start today against the White Soxmade his first Cactus League start on 3/8 vs. the Giants, working 2.0 innings in that game and allowing one run on two hits. LOS CUATRO FABULOSOS: INFs Jonathan Galvez, Edinson Rincon and Jeudy Valdez and OF Rymer Liriano have combined thus far this Spring to go 18-for-41 (.439) with 12 doubles and 13 runs scored. FORK IN THE ROAD: The Padres play their second split squad tomorrow, traveling both to Scottsdale to face the Dbacks and Goodyear to face the Redswill have four remaining split squads after tomorrow before the end of Spring (March 18, 24, 27, 31). ROSTER MOVES: The Padres yesterday reassigned five players to minor league camp, including Cs Ali Solis and Eddy Rodriguez, INF Cory Spangenberg and RHPs Cory Burns and Jorge Reyes with those moves, the club now has 56 players in Big League camp...with a full 40-man roster and 16 non-roster invitees, the squad currently features 27 pitchers (eight southpaws), five catchers, 14 infielders and 10 outfielders...entering camp, the club has 16 players on the 40-man roster who were not at the beginning of 2011 Spring Training. THE FUTURE: Seven of the Padres Top 10 prospects, according to Baseball America, are currently in Big League camp...that list includes INF Yonder Alonso (1), C Yasmani Grandal (2), OF Rymer Liriano (3), RHP Casey Kelly (4), INF Jedd Gyorko (7), RHP Joe Wieland (8) and LHP Robbie Erlin (9)...Baseball Americas ranking of the Top 100 prospects in baseball also included Alonso (33), Grandal (53), Kelly (76) and Gyorko (98)in total, the club had six players featured in the top 100 which were tied for the most among all clubs (also, Athletics, Cardinals and Rangers). ROOKIE ROUND-UP: 24 of the 56 players currently in camp will qualify as rookies in the 2012 season, with 13 of those 24 on the 40-man roster...the 13 consist of Brad Brach, Erik Hamren, Nick Vincent, Jose De Paula, Juan Oramas, Yasmani Grandal, James Darnell, Andy Parrino, Edinson Rincon, Cory Spangenberg, Jeudy Valdez, Rymer Liriano and Blake Tekotte. PADRES ON THE RADIO: Each day there is a Padres game, you will be able to hear it broadcast in English on 1090 AM or 1700... one game will be broadcast on days there are split squad games... the action will be brought to you by Ted Leitner, Jerry Coleman, Andy Masur and newcomer Bob Scanlan...in addition, all Saturday and Sunday games will be broadcast in Spanish on AM 860, with Eduardo Ortega and Juan Avila calling the action. SINGLE-GAME TICKETS: Single-game tickets for the Padres 2012 season are currently on sale and can be purchased online at www.padres.com/tickets, by phone at 619-795-5555 or at the Petco Park box office. SPRING HOME: The Padres, Mariners and city of Peoria announced an extension earlier this month, keeping Spring Training baseball at the Peoria Sports Complex until 2034...the Padres have called Peoria home since relocating from Yuma in 1994. 11,000 PADRES: The Little League season has kicked off in San Diego, with players all over the county sporting their new Padres uniforms thanks to the clubs Youth Baseball Initiative...the program has supplied over 11,600 Little Leaguers with Padres uniforms, representing 20 different styles from throughout the clubs history.
