LDI protocols
SNMP manager TFTP server UDP IPv4 Limited DHC P server provides configuration to the S WUs during S WU start-up. S WU gets its IP address, netmask, default gateway IP address and supervising unit (MC MU) IP address. DHC P service is available only in BS C 3i:s. S ystem identifies the S WUs based on the address coding modules (ADDMO D or C AB_ ID/C AR _ ID). The external C IS 3550/3750 of BS C i/2i can not be identified. NOTE : if DHC P is used there shall not be another DHC P server than the BS C s own MC MU connected to the LAN). S NMP protocol is used in setting S WU configuration, receiving alarms (traps) from the S WUs, locating S WU faults and getting measurement information from the S WUs. TF TP server is used for downloading the new software image and configuration command files to the S WU. User can open a Telnet session to the S WUs C LI via MML interface. The S WU C LI is password protected. To be able to connect to the S WU via MML (MML command Z W6T) the user has to first define the S WU passwords to the BS C (MML command Z W6M) .

SWU configuration
User can set up and configure the S WUs with the MML command YFM (Manage LAN switch) and with C LI commands from the BiNO S C ommand Language Interface (C LI). C onfiguration steps
E S B20-A and E S B26 have factory default settings (see user guides) Default S WU configuration command files (PO C C abxx.IMG ) are included in the BS C s S W package. PO C C abxx files are common for all Network E lements using the E S Bs.
a is S WU type (5 = E S B20-A, 6 = C IS 3550, 7 = E S B26), b is number of the topology this S WU belongs to, xx is index of the S WU in the topology (always Z Z i.e. not used yet).
User configures S WUs basic IP parameters (LAMANA MML, WY). S WU gets them from MC MU via DHC P or user sets them manually via C LI. During BS C commissioning/integration user uploads the default configuration command files from O MU disks to the S WUs with MML (YFM:UC F :S WU,0:;). User completes the site specific S WU configuration with S WU C LI (either with MML (W6T:S WU,0;) or via C LI). User downloads the upgraded S WU configuration command files from S WU into the O MU disks with MML command (YFM:DC F :S WU,0:;). S ystem saves the active configuration command files to O MU disks with names TG Y C abxx.IMG . If user changes and downloads the S WU configuration again, system saves also the previous active configuration into O MU disks with name TG Y C abxx.BAK . copy running-config download-from <ip-address> <config file>, write memory

C onfiguration files containing BiNO S commands are like command macros i.e. commands are cumulative. If existing setting is not erased or set again in the new configuration file the setting stays as it was before the new configuration file download .
User interface for the looking at the active alarms and alarm history is Alarm History Handling MML (AHIHAN, command group AH). C NW S tate management offers means to separate E thernet interfaces and ports, S WUs or LANs from active E thernet traffic. C ontrolled re-routing of E thernet traffic is needed during LAN device maintenance. User interface for C NW state management is Working S tate and R estart Handling MML (R C VHAN, command group US ). R ecovery does not change the C NW and S WU states automatically.

Interface Redundancy
UNIT-n (WO E X) Logical & carrier sense active 172.16.2.2
EL 0
EL 1
Interface redundancy may be used to backup IP address assigned for E thernet or V LAN interfaces inside the same computer unit. In a case physical link fails, a C arrier S ense IP address is quickly moved to the back-up interface and a gratuitous AR P is broadcasted to advertise the MAC address of the new active interface. S tatus changes at the physical link are detected by device interrupt and the redundant IP address switchover is therefore nearly transparent action for IP user applications; meaning redundant IP addressing switchover has no effect on established TC P/IP connections.
M92 mechanism based plug-in variants PC U, PC U-S and PC U-T are not able to generate HW interrupt from link status changes and are therefore using HW polling at 200 ms interval by the E thernet driver.
The user may prioritize interfaces of the computer unit in a way that unit favors always the same physical network interface when both interfaces are functionally stabile.

Logical IP addressing based redundancy model may be used to hide internal failover actions and remain serving IP address as the same for the remote peerend application over the local unit switchover. Notice that only the IP address is able to remain over unit switchover and all existing IP connections are lost since the TC P/IP stack and local IP applications of DX 200 are not warmed and not able to move established connections from the failing unit to the another working one.

SCTP Multihoming
Defined in R F C 2960: An S C TP endpoint is considered multi-homed if there are more than one transport address that can be used as a destination address to reach that endpoint. Nokia implementation supports two addresses per endpoint (one for each E thernet interface in MC MU/BC S U) Both interfaces are active at the same time, but only one path is used at any time S C TP link supervision is based on acknowledgements (just like in TC P) Idle link is supervised with Heartbeat messages In case of primary path failure, S C TP seamlessly (800 ms) changes to secondary path.

Routing protocols
With routing protocols (e.g. O pen S hortest Path F irst (O S PF )) the alternative routes to the service are advertised. Using the routing protocols neighbouring routers discover link failures and are able to route traffic to the surviving links .

VLAN
Virtual LAN = (Layer-2) broadcast domain IE E E 802.1Q standard: Tag-based VLAN uses an extra tag in the MAC header to identify the VLAN membership of a frame across bridges. E S Bs support Port-Based VLANs - VLAN id can be determined, based on the Port of arrival of the frame into the S witch. In S 12, user can configure VLAN tagging to be done in the C PU host ports (TC P/IP S tack Data Handling MML Y O O HO O , command group QR).

VLAN benefits
Workstations can be grouped logically or functionally, regardless of their physical location on the network. E xtra security
Devices within each VLAN can only communicate directly with devices in the same VLAN. C ommunication between devices in different VLANs must pass through a routing device or Layer 3 switch.
VLAN function
IE E E 802.1Q VLAN function contains the following three tasks, Ingress Process, F orwarding Process and E gress Process.

E ach port is capable of passing tagged or untagged frames. Ingress Process identifies if the incoming frames contain tag, and classifies the incoming frames belonging to a VLAN. E ach port has its own Ingress rule. Untagged frames will be tagged with the PVID value associated to the port. If user has not defined PVID to the ingress port then the default PVID = 1 is used. Tagged frames are passed, but only if the VLAN identifier is associated to the port.

EtherChannel
C iscos E therC hannel allows to bundle several, identical physical ports together to form one logical port. E therC hannel provides fault-tolerant, high-speed links between switches, routers and servers. E therC hannel can combine multiple F ast E thernet up to 800Mbps or G igabit E thernet up to 8G bps. IE E E 802.3ad uses term Link Aggregation G roup for the same functionality. Also called port or link trunking.

VLAN trunking
A trunk is a point-to-point link between one or more E thernet switch interfaces and another networking device such as a router or a switch. Trunks carry the traffic of multiple VLANs over a single link. A trunk saves ports: traffic on some VLANs may not need a dedicated link, and so a trunk will bundle virtual links over one physical link. A trunk can be configured on a single E thernet interface or on an E therC hannel bundle.

IP addressing principles
Logical addresses are recommended to be used in both C PUs and PC Us Physical addresses can be used in O MU (not duplicated) and in PC U with G b over IP dynamic configuration. S igtran with multihoming needs one logical address for E L0 and another for E L1 from two different subnets and two different VLANs. LDI requires two subnets:
addresses for MC MU E L0 and even numbered S WUs Addresses for MC MU E L1 and odd numbered S WUs.
E ach VLAN forms at least one subnet. S ame VLAN can have several subnets.
in LDI connections the two subnets belong to the same V LAN.
S tatic routes are used between the C PU/PC U host ports and the site edge routers.
