    children to the doctor for well-child
    checkups once the shot schedule tapers
    off.
    If your child is a teen or tween, gone
    are the days when he/she was placated
    by a lollipop after a doctors visit. Now
    you likely have to badger or bribe him/
    her to see the doctor or outright drag
    them to medical appointments. Even
    more challenging for parents is making
    sure the doctor is a good match for the
    growing childs needs, medically and
    emotionally.
    After a childhood of doctors visits
    aimed at preventing disease and
    tracking developmental milestones,
    teens and preteens need a different
    level of medical care. We move from
    a prevention model to a sick model,

    Clarkston man at center of
    big drug case A Clarkston man was
    charged for the second time with
    conspiracy to deliver cocaine and
    jailed on $5 million bond. Joseph
    Edward Puertas, 70, was arrested
    along with an employee James Talley,
    35. Puertas family owned the
    Megabowl near Baldwin and I-75 in
    Orion Township.
    Task force to study I-75 The
    Traffic Improvement Association of
    Oakland wanted to do something
    about the congestion on I-75 espe-
    cially with the combination of trav-
    elers heading to work, Palace of
    Auburn Hills traffic, and new shop-
    ping complex being built on Baldwin
    Road. They spearheaded a task
    force with government representa-
    tives from communities along I-75
    and developers.

    Officials see continued growth
    88 Local government officials were
    predicting steady growth and
    increased traffic was for the new
    year.
    Blue and Gold club helps oth-
    ers Over 200 teenagers at Clark-
    ston High School joined forces to do
    good deeds in the community since it
    was formed in 1987. The idea from
    the club came from Principal Dr.
    Robert Burek. A high school he pre-
    viously worked had it and it was suc-
    cessful there.
    50 years ago - 1962
    Thayer Wilson in TV
    performance Miss Thayer Wilson
    of Clarkston, choreographed a
    dance number presented in the
    Christmas dance program at Hollins
    College. A senior, Ms. Wilson
    arranged a group selection, And the
    Glory of the Lord Shone Round
    Them, for the program. The
    production was also presented on
    video tape on a local Roanoke
    television station.
    Wild Ideas

    When flakes fell outside the front
    windows of The Clarkston News
    office last week, I thought of snow
    days. Those glorious unexpected
    holidays from school meant sledding,
    fort building, and
    cracking through the
    icy surface of what
    had been a puddle
    just the day before.
    If I was lucky,
    wed get a blizzard
    right around my
    birthday on Jan. 12,
    and discovering school was out felt
    like getting an extra present.
    Dressed in layers and unable to
    put my arms down like Ralphies
    little brother, I threw myself down
    onto the snow without worry of
    getting hurt because I had plenty of
    padding.
    The snow crunched as I created
    snow angels just my size, then I
    would lie there for a while feeling
    the soft, cool kisses of snowflakes
    tickle my nose and cheeks.
    Hundreds of fork-shaped
    footprints were etched in the snow
    beneath the bird feeder, icicles
    formed along the edges of the
    birdbath, and I watched as individual
    flakes landed in my gloves.
    The power of so many tiny
    snowflakes to transform my
    backyard overnight was like magic!
    A similar wintery spell was cast
    on downtown Clarkston when it
    turned into a frosty wonderland.
    The Optimists rink froze for
    skaters, snow blanketed the roof of
    the gazebo in Depot Park, and ducks
    sprinkled with snowflakes swam in
    the stream beneath the bridge,
    oblivious to the cold.
    The evergreens and red ribbons
    in the Clarkston Farm and Garden
    Club planters along Main Street
    looked even more festive with a
    layer of frost.
    Under the snow, the lights
    hanging from shop windows emitted
    a cheery glow, and the Mill Pond
    took on a picturesque quality with

    When Davisburg resident Carol
    Compagnoni heard a knock at her door,
    she didnt anticipate finding out there
    might be oil or gas under her property.
    Its kind of a neat thing if you think
    about it. It just gives your property extra
    value, said Compagnoni.
    With a packet of brochures, maps,
    and paperwork in hand, Eric Mayfield,
    a representative of oil and gas producer
    West Bay Exploration, was on her
    doorstep to offer a 5-year lease
    agreement with the Compagnonis for
    New year as
    newlyweds
    Resident enthusiastic about oil, gas potential
    their mineral rights.
    If the Compagnonis sign the
    agreement, they will receive money up
    front along with a monthly check for 1/
    8 of the royalties if the drilling operation
    produces oil and gas.
    The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan
    Authority (HCMA) accepted Jordan
    Developments proposal for continued
    drilling in the Indian Springs Metropark
    near Compagnonis home in October.
    Since the HCMAs unanimous approval
    of the project, West Bay, a partner of
    oil and gas company Jordan Overall,

    U.S. Army Specialist Andrew
    Ferguson brought 2012 to a close as
    a married man.
    Andrew and Rachael (Meitz)
    Ferguson, both of White Lake,
    exchanged wedding vows in
    downtown Clarkston, Dec. 23,
    specifically, the conference room of
    the Movement recruiting firm in the
    Clarkston Mills.
    We were looking at Depot Park,
    but its too cold, so we looked over
    here, Andrew said.

    window and the bridge, and we really
