Introduction Origin of Philosophy Philosophy is a Path Essence of Philosophy Ti Estin

Martin Heidegger was a German philosopher known for his existential and phenomenological explorations of the "question of Being". He wrote a book in Greek entitled ; and later on it was translated to English What is Philosophy? which tells the significance of Philosophy in our beings. According to Martin Heidegger, Philosophy is a very broad to define. It means that we can never exactly define what Philosophy is. Giving it definition is like trying to limit the range of it. The word Philosophy comes from the Greek word philosophia. Accordingly the word philosophia is a path along which we are travelling. It is like a path that never ends. A path that will help us to lead the right direction of our lives. As the author of the book wrote, The path which I should now like to point out lies directly before us it helps us to reveal what is the truth behind every lies. He also mentioned without Philosophy there would be no inventions today. No computers, mobile devices or any kind of technologies because all Sciences started from Philosophy. The word Ti Estin [what is it?] caught my attention from the book because I always give one word answer to a question. It is a form of questioning which Aristotle, Socrates and Plato developed. Many people today misinterpret the question what is it? they will answer back and will only tell what they have seen. For example well ask What is a ball pen? theyll answer It is a tool not too specific to get the means of a ball pen from their answer. Thats what we called quid or essence. Whenever we are trying to reason out, we have to give the essence of it not just the things that we can see but also the purpose of it. This magnificent book taught me that Philosophy is not just a subject to be passed but it is a weapon to fight the issues that our country experiencing right now like corruption, poverty, unemployment and most especially lack of thinking that leads to those problems. If we only think the way Plato, Socrates or Aristotle think Im sure this will be going to be a war because as Mr Vergara told us in one society every individual have their own differences. But if our leader thinks the way Plato, Socrates or Aristotle thinks, Im sure of it nobody feels the way I feel Discouragement.
