Bishopdale/Kendal Avenue Committee Newsletter

Committee preview for the year We are hoping to raise plenty of funds during Plunkets annual appeal week, March 4th 10th. Every year we need to cover costs such as phone, electricity, rates, insurance, cleaning and gardening as well as the on-going maintenance of the rooms. We understand that you are all busy with little ones but if you could spare just an hour to collect for us we would be so grateful. Why not volunteer with a friend and you can have a catch up while helping out your local Plunket! Remember our rooms are available evenings and weekends for hire. We have a well fenced outside area with several ride on toys and are available for a very reasonable price. We have now purchased a small bench top oven so you can even heat the sausage rolls if required! Again a huge thank you to everyone who purchased Village Press Olive Oil from us before Christmas, we raised over $500. If you wish to contact the Parent Volunteer Group please email us on bishopdaleplunket@gmail.com . If you need to update your childs details or arrange an appointment please contact the nurse by ringing the clinic 358-7569 and leave a message. Situations Vacant - Gardener We require someone to do a bit of gardening at the Kendal Ave Plunket Rooms throughout the year. Basic weeding, trimming, sweeping of leaves etc. This would be on an as required casual basis. If you are interested please contact the committee at bishopdaleplunket@gmail.com and we can discuss our requirements further and an hourly rate. First Foods Due to the low numbers attending last year the first foods sessions will not be run at our clinic this year. The closest sessions to attend are now at Papanui Plunket or Fendalton Plunket. See page 2 of this newsletter for upcoming dates. Coffee Group The coffee group at Bishopdale is meeting on Mondays from 10 11.30am at the Kendal Avenue rooms, 57 Kendal Avenue. There is a fabulous group of mums and young babies coming along and everyone is enjoying the rooms and the sunshine. Over the next month we will have someone from Christchurch City Libraries coming along to talk about the benefits of our children being library members and how our babies enjoy hearing parents and caregivers read and sing. We also have plans to have one of our Carseat Services angels come and talk about what to look for in a carseat when moving from a capsule to a rear facing convertible seat and what the possible law changes will mean for our little people. The group meets weekly, and everyone is welcome. If youd like further information, please call Pia on 027 675 3260 Update on Christchurch City Library Services: New mobile Library to go vans are now out and about in Christchurch. The vans each fully kitted-out to deliver familiar library services including books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and free Wi-Fi will help fill the gap left in library services after the earthquakes lead to the closure of Bishopdale, Central, Linwood, South and Sumner Libraries. A trailer able to transport additional furniture and equipment will be also available for special events and programmes. The Mobile Library will visit BISHOPDALE on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm and Sundays from 10am to 2pm. It will be located in the car park nearest the Library.

Mothers DaySunday 12 May Craft Idea Bouquet Photo Flowers

Spoiling mum this year doesnt have to cost a lot and will be a lot of fun for the kids to make. This precious keepsake could also be made for your special Nana or Grandma this Mother's Day and they will cherish it forever! You Need: Construction paper, various colours Glue stick Photos Scissors and Tape Green pipe cleaners, one for each flower Optional: pattern paper How to make it: Cut photos into circles to be used as the centre of the flower. Cut simple flower shapes out of construction paper. Glue photo circle to the centre of flower. This step is optional: Glue construction paper flower to a piece of patterned paper. Cut around the flower giving your construction paper about a 1/2 inch border of patterned paper. Tape pipe cleaner stem to the back of your flower. Make sure the tape is secure by pressing onto the tape with your fingernail. Trim ends of pipe cleaner to the length you desire, depending on what you are using as a vase. If making a hand-held bouquet, don't trim the pipe cleaner; simply tie a ribbon bow around them all. With thanks to Carolyn from the Papanui/Merivale Committee for this great craft idea.
