Land Parcel 0088, Willow Bank Road, Alderton (19/00772/FUL) - Residential development up to 28
units, including means of access and landscaping. There is now a planning application from CALA
Homes for 28 new houses on the site immediately south of the existing CALA development. This proposal
was opposed by the vast majority of those villagers attending the consultation event in June. Villagers are
now encouraged to comment on the formal planning application using the comments form, provided by the
Local Authority at www.tewkesbury.gov.uk/planning then search using the reference 19/00772/FUL. This
development is outside the village boundary, not in the Neighbourhood Development Plan and would come
on top of the 75 new houses already built in the last few years in the village. Your comments are
important.
OTHER PLANNING – No new planning applications have been received. The following application has
received permission for development: 12A Brookside, Alderton (19/00759/FUL) - Creation of vehicular
access and parking area.
HOUSING NEEDS SURVEY – The Borough Council has formed a programme of parish housing needs
surveys throughout the Borough and Alderton is one of a dozen parishes that has been included in the 2019
programme. Every household will be sent a paper survey by post during week commencing 11 th November
2019. Gloucestershire Rural Community Council has been appointed to undertake this survey as an
independent and neutral organisation. The Parish Council have made it clear that they see no need for
further development in the village.
PLAY AREA VOLUNTEERS - We have a group of volunteers carrying out weekly checks at the playground,
making sure the equipment is in working order, clearing up any litter and doing some general tidying up etc.
The group is now looking for more volunteers to help with the weekly checks which only take about 10
minutes to complete. If you'd be interested in joining this group, or would like to know more, then please get
in touch with Simon Finch on 07729 073267.
FUNDING SUPPORT AND ADVICE FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS – Tewkesbury Borough Council are
holding surgeries at the Council Offices for any groups which would benefit from support. The dates are:
31st October, 28th November and 12th December. To book an appointment contact the funding officer,
Martha Mundy, on 01684 272099 or email: martha.mundy@tewkesbury.gov.uk
ALLOTMENTS – DOG WALKING – A reminder that the site is privately tenanted and is therefore not
to be used for dog walking purposes.

STEVE BOWLES IS RUNNING IN THE CHELTENHAM HALF MARATHON FOR THE SUE RYDER
HOSPICE ON SUNDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER IN MEMORY OF TASH PARRY.
This is my last update with a few days to go before the big day on Sunday. I’ve run in 3 more official runs in
September increasing my weekend mileage doing the Westonbirt 10K, the Apperley quarter marathon and
our own Alderton 5K although I’m already “ Tapering down “. I want to say people have been very
encouraging on seeing me out and about on the roads or passing through the surrounding villages. At the
Sue Ryder Hospice, we have continued our Thursday night interval training, sprints, strengthening exercises
and coaching to increase our stamina and improve our running styles.
The totals are now £540.00 in cash/cheques and my online Justgiving.com page has now reached £410.00.
I will update you again next month on how things went for me during the run and if I managed to hit my
target time. If you want to sponsor me, I have a sponsor sheet at the Gardeners Arms too. Please remember
to state whether Sue Ryder can claim 25% gift aid. Lastly, I would welcome anyone who wants to cheer me
around the Cheltenham route. I’ll be wearing my Sue Ryder vest with number 1084 on it.
Thank you

The Village Hall Committee would welcome anyone interested in joining us to help run, maintain, and
improve the hall. This facility is well used by many village organisations and classes, and we want to do our
best to keep it up to a good standard.
The curtain has fallen on yet another season for Alderton Wanderers Cricket Club. We have managed to get
in 14 matches this summer with an overall record of won 7, lost 7. Many memorable moments as ever but
winning our first match of the season with a 6 on the last ball, finishing runners up in the Bredon Hill Bash
(no idea how we managed that!), the annual derby against Dumbleton (always a close one) and the “tour” to
Bristol (never a close one) stand out. In all, 30 players have, to varying degrees, played in games this
season but we are always on the lookout for newbies. Remember, we are a social club and don’t exclude
anyone based on ability……which you would soon work out if you ever saw us play! All we ask is that you
know which end to hold a bat, which direction to throw the ball and look good (or even not so good) in a red
and black striped cap.
We look forward to another successful and social season in 2020 and, looking further ahead, an exciting
tour to Porto, Portugal in 2021.
Wildlife facts
I would just like to thank the family in Cambridge Square who rescued a bat from their cat and brought it
round to me. Fortunately, the bat wasn't injured and after monitoring for 24hrs the adult female common
pippistrelle was able to be released the next night. At 6.5g she was the heaviest pipiestrelle I've seen in a
long while and has clearly been doing well in fattening up for hibernation. At that weight she should do well
through the winter and hopefully she'll be back next year to give birth. It's nice to have a success story so
close to home.
I would also like to thank everyone for their continued donations of stamps, empty pringle tubes, used
toothbrushes and empty toothpaste tubes. Every single item contributes to our Terrecycle total and helps
raise much needed funds for taking care of the bats. If any of you enjoy pub quizzes, The Queen Elizabeth
Inn in Elmley Castle are hosting a Bat Care Fundraising Quiz on Wednesday 30th October at 7:30pm. It's a
nice local pub and the quiz last year was a really fun night so if any of you are free, we'd love to see you
there. We're also going to be at Morrisons Supermarket in Evesham doing a bucket shake raising money
and awareness for the bats on Saturday 26th October. If I don't see you before then, wishing you all a
Happy Halloween in this most bat-tastic time of the year. Aimmie Woodman, 12 Orchard Road, 620373
