Q: First tell us what is CIEC and how does it work? CIEC is the charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee of the Government of Sindh and works under the Governor of Sindh. It is responsible for evaluation of the performance of private sector universities. It comprises of members from Education Dept, HEC, Vice Chancellors of many public sector universities and subject experts from the public sector universities. This Committee, comprising of 12 - 17 members, visits the private sector universities and evaluates them on various dimensions such as Faculty, Curriculum, Infrastructure, Research and Development, Teaching and Learning Resources, Extra and Co-curricular activities, Student quality and satisfaction, Job placement of graduates, Employers feedback, etc. and then it prepares its ranking. Different measures have been taken to ensure that no one is denied access to the quality education because of his/her financial position. The poor have two barriers to cross for access to quality education, the first is academic and other is financial poverty. Sukkur IBA by introducing foundation program has successfully addressed this dilemma. To render its true services to the students of local and poor communities the foundation semester system was started in 2007. Sukkur IBA is the only pioneer and initiator of this program among all the public sector institutes. This program aims at supporting and preparing the students with poor academic background, providing them a chance of getting admission at Sukkur IBA and to compete with other students with sound schooling. Through this semester, students from far flung areas are selected and passed through a comprehensive teaching process for more than 4 months in basic subjects which cover the entry level curriculum. This program builds the capacity of those students which may not be accepted in any university due to their academic deficiencies. After passing this semester they are in better position to compete on merit and secure admissions for higher education which ultimately contributes towards the economic well being of the country. The department of education offers degree program to produce professionally skilled and competent teachers which is a need of time. Degree program offered in department of Agriculture Business is MBA - (Agri- Business); it is an industry requirement and is initiated after demand from different organizations. Entrepreneurship itself is a very growing field of study and Sukkur IBA has initiated a degree program in it. Being surrounded by educationally poor areas, this program will support students and help local community in establishment of their own businesses. Creation of new business supports the economic engine of the country by creating more employment, training and increasing production. Network of Community Colleges As it is identified that students suffer from the academic poverty as well, therefore to address the challenge Sukkur IBA decided to start working through the network of community colleges which strengthens foundation of students on competitive basis at very affordable cost. Community colleges in Khairpur Mirs, Naushehro Feroz and Dadu are operating and rendering their services, whereas IBA Community College Jacobabad is in pipeline. These colleges are affiliated with Agha Khan Education Board and have linkages with international academic bodies. Development Works at Sukkur IBA Since past decade, Sukkur IBA kept growing continuously without any pause. It started journey from two classrooms of Public School Sukkur to the state of the art building of international stature. Currently a number of development projects are also in pipeline. Construction of a modern Academic Block II has been completed in 2011, construction work of two floor administration block, two floor boys hostel, two floor executive girls hostel and two floor central library are in progress and will be complete very soon.
