Oxford Majlis Asian Society Termcard Trinity Term 1988
The promise of long afternoons of punting and croquet is threatened only by the imminence of examinations and the expectance of cloudbreak. ... We hope that the summer spirit lends itself to this term's programme of events, which features music and dance recitals and a much awaited Majlis day-trip to Cambridge. Cultural talks include a journey into Bhutan, with slides, and a look at today's cricket world. Across the broad horizons encompassed by the Majlis, the summer months may also witness significant developments in current affairs both in the South Asia region and in the UK Meetings try to focus on a number of topical issues ~hich pose questions of considerable importance. On behalf of the Majlis we extend our gratitude to Habib Bank Limited for the very generous sponsorship to the society.Habib Bank's assistance will certainly strengthen the impact of the Majlis in Oxford. We do hope that the events stimulate your interest and warmly invite your continuing participation. We wish you a most successful and enjoyable Trinity Term. Mohammad Chowdhury
Jamal's Tandoori Restaurant, 108 Walton St. Tel: 549051 30102. Recently refurbished, Jamal's Tandoori is a beautiful example of a traditionally decorated Indian restaurant transformed by Jamal Hasib, himself an experience restauranteur. Great care has been taken over the menu: Tandoori clay oven dishes are the house speciality, e.g. Tandoori Jhinga (king prawns marinated with special sauce) and Shish Kebab Murgh (diced marinated chicken on skewers). Other house specialities, which are all served with special Basmati rice, include Tandoori Biryani, Lamb Paasanda, and Jhinga Masala Rampuri (king prawns coated in fresh herbs and delicate spices). The extensive menu also caters for vegetarians. Jamal's 'I'andoori is open for seven days a week from midday until 2.30 p.m. and from.6.00 p.m, until 11.30 p.m. For reservations and take-aways phone 0865 54905.

End of Term Dinner Please book early. Send cheques to Soni Zuberi by 15 June. 4 members; 5 non-members.
Nahid Siddiqui has been described as the most eminent classical dancer to have emerged from Pakistan . A virtuoso dancer in the art of Kathak , she was trained by Maharaj Ghulam Hussain , a pupil of Achhan Maharaj . She has danced in many parts of the world including New York Tokyo and Moscow and had her own series on Pakistan TV. The beauty of Kathak dance is the perfectly harmonised patterns of the arms and curves of the body that give visible expression to the rhythm and patterns of the feet.
If you wish to dine with Farokh Engineer, please contact Salma Omar. Also in the pipeline Rajni Kothari will speak on 'Centre-State relations in India' during his trip to the U.K. Sahebzada Yaqub, ex-Foreign Minister of Pakistan, will speak on the Afghan issue.
DAY TRIP TO CAMBRIDGE Join Majlis on a day out to Cambridge. En route you will be treated to an 'in-coach' film and free refreshments . A day of sightseeing will hopefully be complemented by meeting members of Cambridge University Asian societies.
