Local Rehabilitation Effort Aims to Find Beauty Beneath the Blight

Three major
community
organizations came
together recently
to announce a
much needed
rehabilitation effort
in City Heights.
KUDOS/GIVING
With a
grant of more
Stephanie R. Glidden
than $163,000
UrbanLIFT Community Grant

Community HousingWorks and San
Diego Canyonlands will embark on
a renovation of Bandar Salaam, an
affordable-rental community owned
and operated by CHW, as well as the
restoration of the natural habitat of
the Auburn Creek area in Fox Canyon.
The financial assistance will help
transform the blighted area into a place
for families to enjoy and a safe area for
children to walk to and from school.
Additionally, nearby Bandar Salaam
Apartments will also get new lighting,
resealing and restriping of the parking
area, a community monument and
landscaping. The renovation project
is scheduled to be completed by mid2015.
DPR Foundation, the charitable
arm of DPR Construction, and the
Carpenters Union sponsored a $3,000
fundraiser to benefit the Wounded
Warrior Project recently. DPR Project
Manager Ian Pyka expressed gratitude
for all our servicemen and women do.

Union Bank Senior Vice President and
Regional Executive Lawrence Henry to
present $15,000 ($5,000 each) to Boys
& Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego,
San Diego Armed Services YMCA and
San Diego Center for Children.
