The OCTOPUS family of switches meet all relevant industry standards and are the most robust
switches in the market. With Power over Ethernet , Professional frmware standard on all models
and Gigabit connectivity for where a higher bandwidth connection is required.
All products in the OCTOPUS family can be mounted on the wall or directly on the machine.
The IP67 variants offer 8/16/24 Twisted Pair ports (each with up to 8 PoE ports), using ODVA-
standardized 4-pin M12 D-code technology. As the switches are freely cascadable, it is simple to
build decentralized structured networks with the shortest possible patch cables to the end devices.
The OS20 and OS30 switches utilize IP67 fber connections per the IEC 61076-3-106 standard
- Variant 1 is approved by ODVA for use with EtherNet/IP, Variant 4 is approved for use with
PROFINET.
Standard features include: Totally enclosed IP67 design, ODVA-standardized 4-pin M12 D-code
IP67 Ethernet connector, OCTOPUS M is the industrys frst managed IP67 switch, Management
via SNMP v1, v2, v3, web GUI or TELNET, Redundancy via HIPER-Ring and Rapid Spanning Tree,
Redundant power supply for high availability, Operating temperatures as low as 40 C to + 70 C,
and External signaling of alarms via signal contact or network messaging.

Modular Industrial Patch Panel (MIPP)
Product Congurator
The new MIPP is a termination panel for cables that need connecting to active equipment such as
switches. The MIPP can be confgured to create a large single patch panel, to which, for the frst
time ever, both fber and copper cables can be connected.
The MIPP is a completely new solution that provides the ideal connection between Belden cables
and Hirschmann switches. Available in a choice of modules suitable for both fber and copper
cables, up to 6 modules can be connected to create a single panel that can accommodate both
types of cable at the same time for maximum system fexibility. Using patchcords to connect to
active equipment, cables can be terminated inside the cabinet in an organized and structured
manner to ensure the highest level of reliability.

Prior to the advent of Industrial Ethernet (standardized Ethernet communications via hardened
networking infrastructure), offce grade Ethernet cabling and connectors were the only available
options. Unfortunately, these traditional media solutions proved unable to withstand the harsh
environment of the factory foor or other industrial applications.
The Hirschmann product family of Industrial Ethernet Media Solutions eliminates these issues
by combining standard RJ45 connection technology with the proven industrial Micro (M12)
connection technology typically found in sensor/actuator machine applications - also available on
all OCTOPUS, MICE, and MACH1000 Switches.
With the integration of Bonded-Pair technology by Belden, these industrial ethernet media cord
sets have the highest level of signal quality making them one-of-a-kind..

MECHANICAL TESTING
The purpose behind mechanical testing is to manipulate and work the
cable in a manner that duplicates real world scenarios and determine if
it will continue to perform at the required standards. If a cable is being
used in a continuous movement application its important that it be
able to bend and flex repeatedly without compromising the integrity
of the design. Quabbins in house testing facilities can replicate these
movements and evaluate each cable to provide realistic information
and data to extrapolate performance expectations in the field. To
the right are two images, the first is showing a Torsion tester which
simulates a rotational stress comparable to what a cable would
experience while controlling end of arm tooling. The second photo
shows a rolling bend Flex tester which simulates an unsupported
bending motion typical of what you would see on a robotic arm.
CHEMICAL TESTING
Quabbins harsh environment cables find their way into many
interesting applications such as mil-tec, wastewater treatment and
energy exploration, just to name a few. Historically the most popular
application for Industrial Ethernet has been on the factory floor an
environment also regarded as harsh not only due to mechanical
abuse, but also because of chemical exposure. This knowledge has
guided us to test cable capabilities beyond electrical and mechanical
stress and evaluate performance and longevity when faced with
chemicals and solvents. To the right is a picture illustrating the
chemical testing performed on our industrial Ethernet cables. The tests
include prolonged exposure to a battery of chemicals and the resultant
effect on tensile, elongation, diameter and wall thickness as well as
overall characteristic changes.
What advances DataMax
quality commitment. You need a cable you can be tough on and trust in a harsh environment.
We need to provide you with the evidence that our cable is the best choice for the job.
Chemical tests (affectionately nicknamed the bean sprout
tests) being conducted to validate the resistance of the
TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) cable jacket to chemicals
commonly found in a heavy manufacturing environment such
as cutting fluid, oil and robotic grease.
Rolling Bend Flex Tester showing a 4 pair, double shielded
(foil & braid), DataMax
is dedicated to
producing best of breed cables for the industrial market. We achieve this through constant
innovation, in-line monitoring and rigorous testing ensuring our cables meet your needs,
requirements and expectations. We know the importance of mitigating downtime and our top
priority is to deliver a cable you can depend on in any environment. For complete test reports
visit the lab section of our website or contact a Quabbin
sales representative.
Transmitting 10Base-T, 100Base-T, or Gigabit Ethernet
signals over distances in an industrial application presents
two challenges. Building a cable or cord assembly is only
half of the battle. The other challenge is, How good is
it electrically? The charts below illustrate typical Return
Loss and Near End Crosstalk performance for DataMax
Extreme 2-pair and 4-pair, 24 AWG FR-TPE jacketed
cables. Note the huge performance headroom compared
to Category 5e requirements. Industrial Grade PVC or
Polyurethane jacketed DataMax
Extreme cables
to ensure that your Industrial Ethernet cords comply
with applicable requirements of both the TIA 568-C.2
commercial and TIA 1005 industrial specifications.

Non-proprietary Ethernet offers a huge increase in signaling
speeds over older industrial control systems. Ethernet is
reliable and easily migrates from 10Base-T to higher speeds.
However, commercial office Ethernet systems cannot survive
harsh conditions on the factory floor
without being specially hardened
or protected.
Quabbins family of Industrial Ethernet
cables were developed to reliably
survive industrial hazards and may
be terminated using encapsulated
RJ- 45 modular plugs or industrial M12 connectors which
have been adapted for Ethernet transmission. These
connectors use O-rings, overmolding, and/or sealing gaskets
to bond to the cable jackets, providing a mated connection
that resists fluids, dust, vibration, and
other hazards, yet often may be field
assembled. Assembly ratings of IP67
and IP69 are achievable when properly
terminated using sealed connectors,
assuring resistance to both fluid and
dust particle penetration.

Ethernet for harsh environment
Rugged. Reliable. Trusted to Eliminate Downtime.

48MS MultiSight vision sensors
54RF, 55RF, and 56RF RFID ethernet
control interfaces
As ethernet becomes increasingly utilized in
industrial control, survival of physical media
in rugged or harsh environments is
becoming a necessity. The high speed of
network protocol allows it to be used in
applications where other networks fall
short. EtherNet/IP uses both standard
ethernet and TCP/IP technologies and an
open application layer protocol called the
Control and Information Protocol (CIP). This
is the same application layer used in
DeviceNet and ControlNet networks.
Rockwell Automation Cat5e ethernet cables
are designed to supply a reliable network
connection in harsh surroundings. By
optimizing the balance of twisted pair
conductors inside a robust Thermoplastic
Rockwell Automation M12 to RJ45
bulkhead connectors provide an elegant
transition for network architecture from an
IP20 setting to an IP67 environment. The
adaptor can be used to connect remote
junction boxes or implement an On-
Machine solution with Armor I/O
products.
The Rockwell Automation ethernet media
portfolio provides reliable connectivity to
maintain network integrity and prevent
costly downtime from troubleshooting.
M12 patchcords can be used with the
following sensing products:

protection levels. The cable is available in
RJ45 patchcords for IP20 applications or in
four-pin D-coded M12 patchcords for IP67
applications where high vibration, fluids,
and other contaminants can threaten the
reliability of a network.
M12 D-code field attachable insulation
displacement connectors (IDCs) are
available in both shielded and unshielded
housings with male or female connectors.
Male eight-pin RJ45 connectors are
available in both a crimp termination and a
toolless IDCs for custom cabling.

environmental protection levels.
Two and four pair PUR robotic flex cable is
available for flex applications, reaching 10
million cycles, as well as a riser PVC cable
for standard applications. High voltage,
600V ethernet cable is available for use in a
cable tray with high voltage power cables.
All ethernet media components are
designed to perform above TIA 568-B.2 and
ODVA ethernet standards. Rockwell
Automation's Bulletin 1585 ethernet cables
are optimized UTP and STP cables in many
applications.

Nine Tests Prove Belden is the Best Choice
for Industrial Ethernet Network Application!
Belden has done extensive testing to compare both the physical and
electrical performance of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) cables
versus industrial cables. The results of each test clearly indicate
why a commercial-grade cable is never suitable for the wide variety
of extreme conditions
that can be at play in an
industrial environment.
To conduct these tests,
Belden used their state-
of-the-art test equipment and propri-
etary test software. Its important to
note that all the cables in this study
initially tested as fully compliant to
the TIA/EIA Category 5e standards i.e., they were
validated to be good when the test began.
For more on the specic results of these tests, please
request a copy of our Industrial Ethernet User Guide

Approvals
All RoHS approved
Many are EtherNet/IP compliant
Some MSHA approved for mining environments
Beldens Patented Bonded-Pair Technology
Most DataTuff cables feature Beldens Bonded-
Pair technology, a patented cable construction
which afxes the conductor insulation of the
cable pairs along their longitudinal axes to
ensure that no performance-robbing gaps can
develop between the conductor pairs.
No gaps between the conductor pairs means
that the conductor-to-conductor spacing, or
centricity, is always uniform
With a uniform centricity, the cable offers
excellent and consistently reliable electrical
performance
Installable Performance is achieved - the
affixing of the insulation of the cable pairs and
the uniform centricity translate to superior
electrical performance, even after the cable
has been subjected to the bending, pulling and
twists inherent in the installation process
Tests Prove the After-installation
Effectiveness of Belden Bonded-Pair Cables
In tests performed by Belden that simulate
the effects of the installation process, both
an industry-leading 350 MHz Cat 5e cable (a
nonbonded-pair cable) and a Belden 350 MHz
Cat 5e Bonded-Pair cable were tested right off
the reel and then for the sake of comparison,
they were subjected to an Installation Stress
Test. Results showed that the nonbonded-pair
cable had an RL degradation greater than 12
dB over 15 times worse than its before-
installation value. The Bonded-Pair cables
showed little change in RL performance.
