w et Word create a new paragraph for you. These new paragraphs can aso
be formatted usng toos provded by MS-Word.
For exampe, t s possbe to ndent the rst ne of a paragraph, to set the
amount of space that separates paragraphs, and even agn a paragraph eft,
rght, center, or ush wth both margns.
Styes are set of formats provded by MS-Word that you can qucky appy to a
paragraph. By appyng a stye, you can set the font, font sze, and even agn
a paragraph, a at once. The foowng exercse w teach the user of the
varous formats that can be used on a paragraph and of the styes that
combne these formattng toos.
You dont even need to seect the whoe paragraph to format t. Pacng the
cursor anywhere n the paragraph, pressng the Enter key w aow you to
create a new paragraph usng the same format.

Start by openng a new, bank document to begn the foowng MS-Word 2007
exercse:
1. Open Word 2007
2. Cck the Mcrosoft Omce button to open ts correspondng menu.
3. Cck New to open the New Document daog box.
4. Cck Bank Document.
5. Cck Create to open a new bank document.
6. Add a sampe text usng the rand functon of MS-Word 2007.
7. After gong through a the commands, type the correspondng headng
and show the actua dspay on the screen.
8. Save and turn n your work.

Creatng a document requres the use of space to ceary dene where each
paragraph w begn end. In MS-Word 2007, sghty more space may be
paced by defaut between paragraphs than between the nes n a paragraph.
The user may ncrease or decrease the amount of space that appears before
and after paragraphs by enterng the desred vaues n the before and after
eds n the Paragraph secton of the Page Layout tab. The up arrows next to
the Before and After eds ncrease the amount of space before and after
each paragraph, whe the down arrows can decrease the amount of space, as
ustrated beow:
1. Pace the cursor anywhere n the second paragraphs of the sampe text
created prevousy.
2. Choose the Page Layout tab. The vaues for the defaut spacng can be
seen n the Spacng Before ed.
3. Cck on the up arrow next to the Spacng Before ed.
4. Cck on the up arrow next to the Spacng After ed to ncrease the
amount of space the paragraph.
.ote/ You may cck the down arrows next to the Spacng Before and the
Spacng After eds to decrease the amount of space before or after a paragraph.
You may aso type n the amount of space you need, drecty onto the eds. Space
s measured n ponts(72 ponts s equa to an nch).
