theMultiDrive2 system
For Olsbergs, it's the operator's feeling for the

system that counts. The system must respond
quickly and precisely. Sometimes the situaron
calls for gentle initial control followed by a
controlled rapid increase to fuIl speed.
With the new D3lever and the system Display,

the operator has access to individual settings.
Using buttons on the D3 lever, and with the clear
graphical symbols on the system Display, up to
five different operators can easily program their
own customized settings regarding maximum
speed and delay for each crane function in either
direction. The delay determines how softly the
crane responds to movements of the D3 lever.
By using the Micro button, the operator can
conveniently limit the speed of the crane to 20%
or 50% of maximum.
The Olsbergs MuItiDrive2 system meets the

requirements and is capable of living up to the
operator's expectations in every conceivable
situation. In combination with the well-known
Pv90 and Pv9110ad-sensing valves, Olsbergs
have created a system that meets the needs of
the most demanding operator in every respect.
The D3 lever has easily replaceable units, all
of which are calibrated within close tolerances.
The Olsbergs D3 triple-proportional control
lever uses newly-developed digital technology
which allows the operator to communicate with
aIl other units in the well-known Olsbergs
MuItiDrive2 range. We have retained the
mechanical parts and the familiar design of the
earlier A3 controllever.
The digital amplifiers (DA modules) of the

system are the last link in the system. The CAN
bus cable that runs through the system supplies
the amplifier with power and data protocols.
Depending on the deftection of the lever, the
amplifier supplies the solenoid of the valve with
proportional current from O to 500 mA.

Data is fed to the DA modules via the CAN bus.
The DA modules are the output stages of the
system. They convert data into a high-resolution
current.
The pulse-width-modulated current activates the
positioner solenoids and the positioners begin
controlling the position of the valve spool, in direct
proportion to the deflection of the D3 levers. Each
DA13 module controls three valve functions in one
direction.
The D3 lever is the tool the operator uses to control

the crane. In the lever, there is a microprocessor
which constantly reads the position of the lever and
converts this information into a data protocol which
is sent out on the CAN-bus. On the lever there are
pushbuttons to choose MENU and MICRO. These
buttons affect the entire system, regardless of which
levers are pressed. The FUNCTION, CHANGE and
SET buttons for setting the operator profile apply
only to the lever that belongs to the keypad.
Setting functions
All DA13 modules are adjusted before they leave
the factory. A configuration program is used to
determine which functions each DA 13 will control
and in which menu they will be active.

Display
In normal operation, the display shows information

about the chosen operating mode, whether MICRO
is active or whether something is wrong.
When prograrnming an operator profile and when
choosing an operator, the display shows the choices
made.
Different operating mode and fault infornlation

If MICRO has been selected,
the chosen micro mode is
shown bottom left on the dis
play, in the operating menu.
The system detects whether a lever is out of the neutral posi

tion at startup. This is shown on the display by the symbols
of the activated functions flashing and by a warning triangle.
After 10 seconds, only the warning triangle is displayed. The
function that is activated at startup is automatically disabled.
If the lever is in the neutral position the next time the system
is powered on, it works normally again.
There is a corresponding indication if a button is pressed/
shorted at startup. The button is inactive until it is no longer
shorted.
If the system loses contact

with a lever, this is also
indicated on the display.
PB.F
At the centre of the system there is the Power
Box (PB.F), which works like a cornmunications
centre.
The various units of the system are connected to
the Power Box.
Power Box F
A 24-volt supply from the vehicle battery is
connected to the bottom parto There are also six
outputs to extend the supply to other units that
use 24 Y, for example the Olsbergs Relay Box.
Units connected to the CAN bus, as well as
dump solenoids and extra emergency stop but
tons, are connected in the upper parto
PB.F contains many safety-related functions
concerned with both hardware and software. The
box has powerful input protection on the 24 Y
supply to protect the rest of the system from
"dirty" voltage.
SUppOIt
The system is fully functional between 18 Y and
32 V. Fuses for the Olsbergs control system are
located in the cover of the Power Box.

Starting the system
ACTIVATING THE SYSTEM ON THE CRANE

To power-on the system on the crane, press the ON
button on the PB .E The LED aboye the button starts
to flash (blink). (Figure 1.)
Select remote control by pressing the second button
from the left on the PB.E The diode aboye that but

If you want to operate a valve mechanically via hand
levers, press the button at the ~ symbol. The green
LED aboye the button gives a steady light.
Note: You cannot change to manual mode if the
crane is in CRANE mode.

OPERATION FROM THE CAB

If PB.F has been activated as described aboye,
the display shows which operator has been
chosen and indicates that the system is ready in
STANDBY mode. (Figure 3.)
To activate the levers and to be able to operate

the crane, the operator must pull out the stop
button or alternatively opera te the crane opera
tion rocker switch on the panel in the cabo The
display switches to CRANE and the crane is
ready to be operated. If you want to operate
extra functions such as outriggers from the cab,
press the menu button once. EXTRA appears
on the display. (Figures 4a and 4b.)

If the operator forgets to switch off the crane

operation switch/stop button on leaving the
cab, the display shows RESTART. The operator
must then switch the system off and on again to
restart it. (Figure 5.)

Settings
Choice of operator - DRIVER
1. Set the system to STANDBY

2. Press the FUNCTION button on one of the levers.
DRIVER is the first main menu. (Figure 1)
3. Press "CHANGE" to choose the selected menu.

4. Repeatedly press the CHANGE button until the right operator appears on the display. The final speed
and whether any function has changed direction is shown under each operator. (Figures 2 and 3)
5. Exit the operator setting submenu by pressing the SET button or alternatively, operate the rocker
switch/stop button on the panel in the cab to the crane operation position.

Limiting the final speed - SPEED
1. Set the system to STANDBY

3. Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly until SPEED is highlighted on the display. (Figure 1)
4. Press "CHANGE" to choose the selected menu. (Figure 2)
5. Select the function you want to limit by activating (pulling) the lever for that function. (Figure 3)
6. Repeatedly press the CHANGE button until the correct value appears.
100% = no limiting, 50% = maximum limiting. (Figure 4)
7. Press the SET button to confirm the set value.
Repeat steps 5-7 until you have finished the functions that you wanted to limit.

Service mode - SERVICE

In service mode, the service workshop can make certain settings.
Currently (January 2007) the following possibilities are available.
1. Reversing the direction of one or more functions for one or more operators.

2. When fitting a spare part, addressing a chassis/lever to be mounted on the left- or right-hand side.

3. For example, if a chassis is replaced as a spare part, resulting in a chassis from a right-hand lever

described in step 2 (above).
