TeamworkandGroupActivities:Thiscourselaysalotofemphasisonteamwork,asyouwillbeexpected
toworkinteamswhenyougraduate.Theclasswillbedividedintoteamsoffouranditispreferredthat
yousittogetherwithyourteammembersintheclass.Therewillbesomeproblemsolvingexercisesinthe
class,whichyouhavetoundertakeasapartoftheteam.Youwillevengetcandiesforbeingthefirstteam
tocorrectlysolvetheproblemsinclass

DesignProblem:Inthesecondweekofclass,youwillbegivenadesignproblem,whichwillinvolvespice
modelingandbuildinganaudioamplifier.Thedesignproblemwouldbedueattheendofthesemester.
Thedesignproblemwillbeateamproject.However,therolesofeachteammembershouldberotated
duringthecourseoftheproject.
TeamContract:Alltheteamsarerequiredtodevelopa12pageteamcontractthatclearlystatesamong
otherthingstherolesandresponsibilitiesofeachmember,conflictresolutiontechniquesetc.Theteam
contract,dulysignedbyallteammembers,willbedueaweekaftertheassignmentofthedesignproblem.
PeerFactor:Itisemphasizedthatallthemembersofateammaynotgetthesamegrade.Apeerrating
factordesignedtoaccountforindividualperformanceintheteamprojectwillbeused.Attheendofthe
course,allteammemberswillconfidentiallyrateona15scale,howwelltheyandeachoftheir
teammatesfulfilledtheirresponsibilities.Apeerratingfactorwillbedeterminedbydividingthe
individualsaverageratingdividedbytheteamaverageofthepeerratings.Theindividualprojectgrade
equalsthepeerfactortimestheteamsprojectgrade.Notethatthepeerfactorcanbegreaterthanone,
implyingthatanindividualsgrademaybehigherthantheteamgrade.Alsonote,thatifalltheteam
membersrateeachotherasexcellentoraspathetic,thepeerfactorwillbeoneandalltheteam
memberswillgetthesamegrade.(Ahandoutonpeerfactoralongwithasamplepeerevaluation
questionnairewillbedistributedintheclass).
Laboratory:Inadditiontothetwolecturesperweek,youwillhavealabsectioneveryweek.Iwillwork
withthelabTAtoensurethatthereisagoodcorrelationbetweenthecontentsofthelectureandthelab.
Thelabisdividedintothreeparts.Inthefirstpart,youhaveanopportunitytofamiliarizeyourselfwiththe
workingofaBJTandFET.Thesecondpartconsistsofbuildingatwostageamplifier.Thethirdpartofthe
labisopenendedandyouwillberequiredtobuildacircuitforyourdesignproject.
