EVK2_CP/EVM2-CP_LIC - Optical sensor positioning devices with CAN-Bus-Interface and LIC
1.3 Application
Increasing levels of automation and a growing importance of product quality demand a
continuous detection of the strip edge position/strip width in processing lines.
To satisfy this function non-contact measuring sensors (type EVK / EVM) are used to
obtain information concerning the strip edge/strip centre position by using light units
(type LIC) to conduct a bandpass filtering process of a high-frequency proportion of
light.
The sensor positioning devices are controlled in individual cases of operation via the
downstream control electronics. When using sensor positioning devices of type EVK2CP or EVM2-CP the communication and control function is conducted via the
CANOpen interface. This significantly reduces the amount of wiring in comparison to
predecessor EVK and EVM units. Other functions and status messages are integrated
in the communication protocol, which makes maintenance options and troubleshooting
measures much more straightforward.
In normal circumstances a sensor positioning device is controlled in such a way that
measuring photocell LS13 continuously follows the changing strip edge position. This
is simultaneously accompanied by a reference photocell (type LS14), which
continuously monitors the degree of light intensity and compensates any
contamination present.
The current actual position of the sensor positioning device is detected by an internal
rotary potentiometer; it is also possible to use a digital linear stroke transducer.
Application of the LIC
The compact light emitter is a linear light emitter for optical strip sensing. The edge of
non-transparent materials can be scanned in combination with optical receivers
LS13/14 or HF-PLE/HF-PLM and the corresponding evaluation systems (e.g. EVK). A
strip edge sensing system can be realised by using a servo amplifier and an actuator
or two optical receivers.
The compact light emitter should not be used as a light for general illumination
purposes as defined in standard DIN EN 60598 (VDE0711) or other similar
standards.

WARNING
Falling load
Resulting in possible serious bodily injury or death.
1. For the fastening of the load-carrying equipment on the crane only suitable and
sufficiently dimensioned slinging means may be used!
2. The carrying ropes must be secured in such a way so that they cannot slip and
cause the load to tilt and fall.
The crates may only be transported and stored in the designated condition. Damage
to the crates - particularly the packaging foil - is to be avoided.
NOTICE
Torn foil
Results in possible damage to the product.
1. Broken foil must be re-welded to prevent subsequent damage to the equipment.

9 Repair
9.1 Fitting a replacment EVK2.11 card
Required material:
Standard MODEM cable with pin 2/3/5, connected to standard 9-pin Sub-D
connector
Laptop with WIN95 or WIN98/2000
Terminal or Hyperterminal programme (under
Programs/Accessories/Communication/ Hyperterminal)
1. Select FILE from the menu and then choose the sub-menu "Properties".
2. Set up the connection that you will be using to connect the laptop to the EVK2.11.
3. Select CONFIGURE.
This opens the menu with the connection settings.
Set the parameters as follows:
Baud rate:
19200
Data bits:
Parity Bit:
None
Stop bit:
None
Flow control:
Set the parameters in accordance with the displayed numbers and connect COM port
to terminal X21, on EVK2.11.
The procedure for adjusting software limits and internal potentiometers on EVK
2.11 is as follows:
Before conducting this process please check whether card EVK2.11 has a marker
(sticker) which is evidence of a previous inspection.
This confirms that the latest firmware has been downloaded.

II.
1. Actuate switch S31 and S32 to move the EVM to the inner limit position. (A marker
is located on the slide which specifies the position in relation to the aluminium
base plate and there is also a marker for the inner end position.)
2. If it is impossible to reach the specified inner limit position, turn the friction clutch
between the DC motor and potentiometer and change the potentiometer value.
Move the slide to the inner limit position (indicated by a marker for the EVK/EVM
flag).
3. Set the clutch so that 333 mV is displayed on the laptop or 0 mV is displayed on
the voltmeter at measuring point W.
III.
Use buttons S31/S32 to move the EVM carefully to the outer limit
position (as it could move in the direction of the mechanical stop.)
1. Mark this position and measure the distance between the inner and outer limit
positions. Preset for EVK Type 400, 600, 800 etc.
2. Set R30 on the EVK2.11 so that a reading of 1 V/100 mm is shown.
Example EVK 800:
if the gap is 800, then set R30 so that 8 V is shown at measuring point W. (or 8000
+ 333 mV at pont "Position signal internal" in Fig. 2.) This is the standard value of
the internal potentiometer.
IV.
Check whether DIL switch S2/2 is set to OFF (i.e. no linear SSI encoder
is attached to the EVK/EVM).

can move in all directions.
Then repeat steps III through V and enter the desired value.
1. Exit the menu by pressing <B>.
2. Reset S4 to "0". Press RESET button S6.
3. Press button S31/S32 to check if the sensor stroke has been adjusted correctly.
