well as to nurture the students about the evacuation procedure. There should also
be man-power from the institute that can handle the large population of the school;
those who can make everyone follow. A good thing to do also is to put evacuations
plans and procedures in some areas around within each building.
Activity for Chapter 4: Education
Based on the story presented in chapter four, Deolitos main concern is the
education that was not given to him by his parents in his early age. This gives him a
hard time finding a job that earns enough to provide for his family. At the latter end
of the story, Deolitos concern was shifted about the exams he had to take to get
the promotion offered to him. Given that he cant read nor write, he then asks If he
can bring his literate wife with him to read the questions for him, and to write the
answers for him. But the answer remains a question and was left unanswered as the
story ended.
Mang Deolitos case is very similar to those who are beyond or in the poverty
line. They are the ones who are not sent to school during their early ages and are
forced to do labour in such young age. His situation is alike to those were not given
the choice but to work due to lifes circumstances.
There are many factors that hinder individuals to attend school. The most and
foremost factor of it is their life level; in which most are in the poverty line, and
worse, below it. At young ages, they are forced to earn for a living, provide for their
family and simply labour in order to continue living. When they have reached the
maturity level, in my own opinion, their interest regarding the value of education
becomes lesser. Why? Its because they have already seen the practicality of life,
and majority would just choose to continue living with it than pursuing their studies.
Age reason can also be a factor. When they have already done their part in working
for their family, an individual may be old enough, or his age wont be appropriate
for the grade level he would be entering; making him feel ashamed and the fear of
being bullied may also persist.
The problem with regards to Philippine illiteracy can be addressed in various
ways. One is for the government to give more attention to the less fortunate ones
and improve public schools which they can enter in. Public schools should be bigger,
providing enough places for each student to learn. Programs like the Alternative
Learning System is a huge help, because it lets one individual to learn without
undergoing years in a school, not to mention its free. It can also be addressed by
small groups or simply by a normal citizen like us; we can help them by doing
community services that includes teaching children the basics of reading and
writing, providing them with enough knowledge all throughout the service. The
illiteracy problem can be addressed effectively, if and only if, those who are helping
are doing it with utmost sincerity and willingness.
problems with the youth the community. Who knows, they can change with the
recreational activities they will be doing. And be engaged more to it and completely
forget the bad side of their life they once had. A quote perfectly suits this would be
an idle mind is where the devils play around. With recreational activities that
would consume most of their attention and time, they would no longer have the
want and the thinking of doing such things and will later on help them realize that
there are more sensible things that they can do that would actually help them be
better; than waste their lives for nothing.
